How long do you boil eggs?

I always, always forget how long it takes to boil eggs.  I'm thinking around 10 minutes, is that right?

Re: How long do you boil eggs?

  • I do 20.

Mmmm.  I want an egg salad sandwich right now.  And Fritos.  I'm starving.

  • That's what I'm doing for dinner tonight =)   DH is working late, so I figured I'd do sandwiches and he can fix his when he gets home =)
  • The best boiled egg tip I ever got:

fill pot with water, put in eggs, bring it to a boil, once boiling turn the burner off and let them hang out for about 10 minutes.  this way they don't overcook and get that yucky color around the yolk.

  • Husky is right! I've been making these a lot lately and that's what my Betty Crocker book says to do.  I found if you do it for longer you do get that gray color, which is manky.
  • Also, you should rinse them in cold water after you take them out of the water so they don't keep cooking in the shell. It also helps the shell to peel easier.

  • To help with peeling they say to use eggs that are not brand new.  So when I know I am going to boil eggs I always buy them and let them sit in the fridge for 4 days.  Then they are super easy to peel!
