Jumping on the bandwagon

We're going to start looking at houses on the Northshore.  Ideally we wanted to live oot (state).  Like Georgia, NC or TN...but the more I started thinking about it, the harder it was to leave.  Knowing Alex (DS) would grow up not knowing his grandparents and everyone else.

So, anyway....any advice you can give, or good areas you like, let me know.  Basically we currently live in Harvey and are looking to escape the influx of post-Katrina residents and crime.  I don't mind being kind of rural but I want stores within 20 minutes.

I love being in Covington. We live in the River Forest subdivision. I like it b/c the houses are all on larger lots. I've seen some for sale signs lately in the neighborhood, so that might be worth looking into. I don't know if you have a realtor yet, but we used Darci Lambert with Prudential. She also helped Emily find her house. She's really funny and very knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend her!

  • No, not you too, Trinity?!  We've been looking at houses for a minute in Algiers & Harvey.

I love Harvey, but I like being close the the CCC (currently in Algiers).  However the majority of the houses for sale in Algiers are 40+ yrs old or the newly built ones (Aurora Riverside) look like Garden District replicas (nms).

Eventhough I work off Michoud, the East is out of the question & Covington is too far to travel into the city on the daily.

    GL & happy house-hunting!

  • we'll probably be in Slidell.  I have lots of relatives there and the houses are more our price range.

I can't stand living here.  Once we got into New Orleans from our "tour" of Slidell, I got stressed again.

  • Hey girl!  Did you find a job out there yet?  The teacher transfer proceedure for jefferson parish totally SUCKS!  It really is not fair.  I heard it was a little difficult to get a job in tangi parish.  We thought about moving to the northshore, but I think we are going to try to stick it our for one more year.  Not to mention we are both teachers so we really need a job before moving.

    Good luck - Kelli

  • We'd most likely be in St Tammany Parish.  I sent in my application.  My friend works as a teacher in that parish and she said I may have no prob finding a job because I have a Master's and ESL certification.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get a job.  Otherwise I'll be crossing the Causeway to work with my sister.

I will be working at a school in Slidell next year. My parents also live in Slidell. They live in Cross Gates and my friends live in Lake Vista. Neither of those neighborhoods flooded during Katrina which is a definite plus!
