Cancer Scare

Okay, I'm just going to jump right into it.  It's been YEARS since I've been on the nest, but I really need some community right now.

There have been a few times over the past year that I've had some vaginal bleeding.  My OB said to keep an eye on things and if it got worse, to get it checked out.

Well, about two and a half weeks ago, my H and I had three separate sessions of make up sex (and my relationship has gone downhill from there... posting THAT problem on TIP).  All three times it HURT!!  I don't have an issue with pain.  I have many piercings and tattoos (including a tat on my pubic bone).  I've also been a cutter.  But this pain was really bad.  In addition to the pain, I was bleeding on the bed and tissue when I wiped.

I don't have a uterus, so bleeding down there is VERY odd and concerning.

For about a week, I just worried in my mind.  I did some research online and looked at all the possible causes.  The hysterectomy eliminated many of the causes and it seemed like I was left with either cancer or an STD.

Then, my mom was diagnosed with cancer.  It's in her thyroid and two lymph nodes.  They still don't know the origin of the cancer (the malignancies they've found have been metastatic).  They're sending her for a PET scan.

So, I made an appt to get checked out.  Before my appt, the doc had a nurse call me, concerned about my symptoms.  She told me that if things didn't look good, my doc would probably send me out to an OB/GYN that would be able to run further tests and do a biopsy.

I went to my appt.  My doc quicky saw an actively bleeding ulcer to the left of my cervix.  She told me it could be cancer, but tried to reassure me by saying it might be just an STD... but that she'd never seen an STD present this way before.  She's sending me to the OB/GYN for further testing and biopsy.

And now, I have the waiting game.  I have to wait for the referral to get in the system, so I can make an appt.

Has anyone been through this before?  Anyone have cervical cancer?  When I go to this appt for the testing and biopsy, will I be able to drive myself home, or should I try to have a friend go with me?

Re: Cancer Scare

  • First of all, I'm so sorry that you're having to deal with a lot of heavy issues at once. I've never had a cancer scare, but I'd definitely recommend leaning on your friends right now. I would have a friend come along for the biopsy and testing appointment, even if you're able to drive, I think that just having someone there can make a huge difference. Wish I could be more helpful, but I think it's good that you've done what you can and are taking steps to take care of it. Best wishes xoxo!
