best/worst books in June

What was your favorite/most disappointing book in June? What made it so awesome or blah?

Best - The Tao of Martha by Jen Lancaster.  I didn't love everything about this book but found it very relatable and now I want to go organize my whole house.

Worst - A Bite of the Mango. Just blah. Not well written.

Re: best/worst books in June

  • Best: Fair Game, I just love the story and how she writes.

Worst: Summer in the City, I just couldn't take the teenage angst.

  • Man, it was a good month for me.

Best was HP and the Half Blood Prince

Worst was Before I Go to Sleep but I liked that one too so that's not saying much.

  • Best: Under the Dome and The Luxe

Worst: (though I liked this one too but it got three stars): Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts.

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • Best was probably Shadowy Horses- by Susanna Kearsley

Worst was Bossypants by Tina Fey

  • Best: a toss up between The Ocean at the End of the Lane and The Name of the Wind, for different reasons.  TOATEOTL was beautifully creepy, and TNOTW was a fantastic journey.

Worst: Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns.  Horrid.  What a piece of money grubbing crappy sequelness.  The title was so misleading, and the characters were deplorable.

  • Best: It's a tie between Heart of the Sea and Montana Sky both by Nora Roberts. If I had to choose, I'd pick Montana Sky. Loved it, especially all the little story lines.

Worst: Obsession by Karen Robards. Mainly because it got spoiled for me and it was a little over the top ridiculous in the second half. It started out so well though that even spoiled I was disappointed in the second half.

  • The best book I read in June was The Time Between by Karen White. I really, really loved it and gave it five stars.

I read two three-star books in June...There Is No Light in Darkness and Darkness Before Dawn. I wouldn't want to call them the "worst" books, but they were the books I rated lowest in June. I liked them though...just not as much as some things I have read.

  • Best:

A Perfect Blood (Hollows series #10). Fun, fast paced paranormal/urban fantasy.

    Worst:

Darkness Before Dawn. This wasn't a bad book, just my least favorite in June.

  • Best:
Written in Red by Anne Bishop. I have no clue why I loved this book, but I completely did.

    Worst:
Dark Light by S.L. Jennings - the main character was completely obnoxious

  • My best book of June was Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness by Susannah Cahalen.

I'm a nurse and I found it fascinating. It's her account of her descent into madness (seizures, hallucinations, paranoia) that turned out to be a rare, treatable (for most people) autoimmune disorder.

It really made me think about how many people could be misdiagnosed and institutionalized that have a treatable medical disorder and not a mental health disorder.

    No "worst" for June.

Don't get me wrong, it definitely had its  moments, and there were parts I did find to be amusing, but overall it just didn't do it for me. (You're right though, the French class stories were pretty funny)

  • Best - There Is No Light In Darkness by Claire Contreras.

Worst- Lady Almina & the Real Downton Abbey by Fiona Carnarvon.  It was so dry.  Like reading a textbook.

  • Best: I can't pick!

This I Believe: The Personal Philosophies of Remarkable Men and Women by Jay Allison, Dan Gediman (Editors)-5 stars---awesome and thought-provoking.  It was a quick and easy read.

The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay-5 stars--lived up to the hype

Girl Unmoored by Jennifer Gooch Hummer-5 stars--I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did when I first started but NBC has yet to steer me wrong!

Worst: The Last Letter from Your Lover    by Jojo Moyes-2.5 stars

I hate books about cheating and apparently even Jojo Moyes couldn't help me overcome that.

  • Best: There is No Light in Darkness by Claire Contreras...LOVED IT!! (5 stars)

Worst: Naughty Neighbor by Janet Evanovich (3 stars), her books are fun and witty but none so far are out of the park amazing for me.

  • Best:  Me Before You and And the Mountains Echoed.  I gave both 5 stars, they both made me cry and were overall amazing books to read.  Me Before You still has me thinking about those characters and that story.

Worst:  The Princess Bride and Wolf Hall.  Wolf Hall was long and drawn out,  I didn't care for the characters. Its the kind of story that you know how it ends but the author does not do a good job making it fresh even though its told from a different perspective.  The Princess Bride, I didn't get it, I think I should have watched the movie instead.

    my read shelf:
Jenn's book recommendations, liked quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Worst: The Night Circus....it just didn't hold my attention and there wasn't a lot of action

Best: Tie between The Peach Keeper & When You Dare
