KNOCKOUT ROSE (this may have been asked before..)

I tried searching but couldn't find an answer to this specific question. I have a knockout rose plant that has been in the ground since may '08 and it is doing well! I live in Dallas (not sure what zone that is), and it has been cold this week..in the low 30's. no freezing rain or anything yet, but I am wondering what I need to do to take care of this plant for the winter? Do I prune or keep it covered? Or only cover it in a freeze? I planted it in memory of my grandma who died last april and I really dont' want to screw it up! Thanks in advance!

Re: KNOCKOUT ROSE (this may have been asked before..)

  • I"m in zone 7 (Maryland) and I don't do a thing to mine.
  • I'm in zone 8 and also do nothing. You can prune it a bit to make it more bushy, but it's really optional.

    Bubbles are serious stuff.
  • Nothing.

I deadhead the hips throughout the growing season, and prune in late dormancy.
