Intro and Question

Hello everyone!  I am new here.  I wanted to introduce myself.  I am 26 and do not plan on having kids ever.  My husband is on board with the idea, but we have different reasons.  Among my many reasons is the fact that I feel like America is in the s***er and headed into a downward spiral and I don't want to bring kids into that.  My husband thinks I am crazy for even thinking about that.  Does anyone else have similar thoughts on why they don't want to bring kids into the world or am I really crazy on that one?

Re: Intro and Question

  • Hi, I actually understand where you are coming from a little bit. I do think that this country is headed into a downward spiral, because the country as a whole isn't submitting to God and His leadership. The thought of bringing children into this world is a HUGE deal to me. I don't think of them as just cute babies, I think of them as babies who will become children, and then teenagers, and then adults. I don't think that I'm ready for that kind of responsibility and load YET. They would have to face so much more than we did. I do want to have children one day, but me and my husband aren't in a hurry right now. I believe that God has called us to be fruitful and multiply. One of the main reasons I got married was so that we could start a family. If neither of us wanted to children one day, I wouldn't see the purpose in getting married, but that's just me. However, I do understand where you are coming from, you're not crazy at all.
  • My husband and I aren't planning on having kids either.  He worries about the financial aspect.  I just don't want the responsibility.

It's sh*t like this that's why I'm not having kids. I don't want to have to try to explain this sh*t to a kid.

    Anniversary
  • I'm pretty set on no kiddos for me (FI is on board with it too). We like our freedom. We like having us time. We like being able to sporadically decide we want to go out for dinner (without having little ones to take or having to find a babysitter). We like being able to spend our money in the way we want. And I agree about the downward spiral - things are so unsure right now!! I wouldn't want to bring a child into that..

  • I completely agree with you on this. It's not even just financially either. I know it's partially a product of raising but most kids these days are, excuse me for saying this, bastards. I have nieces and nephews and both my mother and sister work with elementary school kids and most of them are rude and disrespectful. On top of personality, there is definitely pressure to dress and behave older than kids actually are. My oldest niece is 11 and she's already shaved half of her eyebrow off TWICE because some little brat told her her eyebrows were too bushy.

I don't want to bring a child into a world where 12 year olds dress like they're 16 and if they don't they get ridiculed.

  • Been lurking here and spending most of my time on the Knot (wedding in 11 months!!!), and I just wanted to jump in here and say I AM SO GLAD there is an entire forum for people who don't want babies.  I've never had a desire growing up to have my own biological children, but I love kids.  I love other peoples' children, because I can get my playtime fix but then hand them back at the end of the day, and I love spoiling other peoples' children.  I just don't want the responsibility of a little person for the rest of my life, plus my family has a crazy health history, so I wouldn't want to risk my own child getting sick.  My FI is on board with this, for different reasons, and it's one of the topics I'm sure we'll get to in premarital counseling.  But just wanted to say rock on to the independent married folks, and again say I'm happy to find others in the same boat as me.
