The Glass Castle... did you like it?

I've heard mixed reviews.  Thoughts?

Re: The Glass Castle... did you like it?

  • oh God - it's one of my favorite books of ALL TIME.  I am typically a chick lit lover and very few books other than my usual have reallllly impacted me.  This is one of them.  There were times I'd lay awake at night thinking of some of the things I read in there.  It was fantastic, imo.
  • LOVED IT!  Couldn't put it down!

  • I didn't really like it.  It was interesting and all and I'm glad I read it, but it wasn't one of my favorites.
  • This was also one of my favorite books of all time... I highly recommend it :)
  • It was one of those books that was really hard for me to read. Hearing the stories of everything she and her brothers and sisters went through made me constantly uncomfortable.  That said, I really enjoyed the book and was very glad that I stuck to it and kept reading.

Ditto also. My book group liked it but we were 50/50 on really loving it.

  • I definitely liked it, but it isn't a book I'd reread. I, like the PP, felt uncomfortable at times, and it made me super angry at times as well. I would give it a go. It's a pretty quick, easy read, so you haven't lost anything if you don't like it.?

  • I liked it, but I didn't love it. ?I think if I hadn't heard any hype before I read it then I might have liked it more, but I just felt like it fell short of the rave reviews everyone else was giving it.
  • I liked it alot.  However, FI and I had it on tape for our cross country move, so we were desperate for entertainment.

Definitely good at least once through.

  • I thought it was interesting and worth the read.  I don't know that I'll read it again.
  • The author Jeanette Walls spoke at the University here recently - she was very moving - a great motivational speaker and seemed to be a genuine person.

    ?

I felt this way too. ?There were times where I could feel myself literally cringing for this family & what the kids went through.

It is well written & a good read though.?
