Cleaning grout

I'm in the bathroom. We have big tile and the grout should be off white, it's not.

So far I have bleach and water solution in the sink and a scrub brush...not seeing immediate results.

Am I on the right track? Other ideas?

Re: Cleaning grout

  • Is this true???

    Found on google...myhomeimprovement.com

Some people use a solution of bleach and water to attack tough stains. If done, you should not do this frequently, as bleach can break down the grout. It is not a recommended treatment.

  • I use a nail scrub brush, with a paste made from Barkeeper's Friend and water.

Aw man...I didn't buy that today...I looked at it and read the package and I knew I had heard that name on here a few times. I can't deal with this waiting game. It still isn't coming clean. I probably shouldn't have started this at this late in the night!

  • You can try a paste of baking soda and soap (dish soap). Scrub it with an old toothbrush and see how it works.
  • I did mine with Bon Ami this weekend and it looks incredible.  I didn't think it was working at the time.  When I went in the next day, after it was dry, holy heck!  The ivory grout was brand new.

I used a Magic Eraser in the other bathroom and it worked very well.

I'm going to have to try these b/c my half bath (downstairs=used often) is still gross.
