Is this ridiculous? Or is it just me?

I came across this while lurking on another board and it boggles my mind that someone would spend money on this.

  • Are you effing kidding me?! I was completely happy with the hospital gown...and honestly, there was a good stretch of time between the 22hr and the 36hr of my labor that I was in fact nude. I'd taken a bath, and just never really put something back on, because at that point, I just didn't care (TMI, sorry)

  • Yeah, I didn't even time to put on a friggen gown.

    That's ridic.

  • So it can get covered in blood and gross stuff? No thanks.
  • I would like to meet someone who has actually wasted money on one of those and ask what the hell they were thinking...

  • I so don't get the point.  Between being insanely swollen from the pre-e and even more swollen from the fluids for the induction, well and being in labor, I looked like H*LL! Putting one of those on would just make me look like H*LL in a pretty dress!

  • I saw this mentioned over on 2nd Tri. Someone actually said they did buy it. They look pretty ridiculous. The whole idea of getting something "prettier" than the normal hospital gown is pretty ridiculous to me. I can't believe people are that "vain" or whatever you want to call it, that they feel like they need to look good (not that I think that looks good) while delivering a baby. You're delivering a baby for goodness sake! You aren't going to look pretty.

You better take pictures!  I wanna see your hair did and your make up done perfectly while you're pushing!

  • Christina, don't forget to order your organic post partum underwear! Because you're not going to ruin them within an hour or anything....
  • Dumb.

In my case, I was naked except for a bikini top (and then a sports bra when I got out of the tub.)  And I probably looked far less ridiculous than I would have wearing one of those things.

I'm pretty sure the only buyers for this stuff are first time moms though.  I remember wanting my toenails painted nicely and my legs shaved for the birth.   Once the contractions hit, I didn't care if I had the gnarliest toes in the world and a forest growing from the waist down.

  • For you, MB!:

    http://prebabyblog.com/2012/03/pretty-pushers-giveaway/

I think they're cuter than a hospital gown, sure. But I personally was in NO SHAPE to be putting on anything cute or even thinking of that when I was in labor.

Also, I was cold enough as it was in a regular hospital gown. I think I'd freeze in this little halter get-up.

  • I'm so glad that I am not the only one who thinks this is ridiculous!  During my 2 deliveries, my gown was the last thing on my mind.

Yup.  Now I've seen it all.

I knew she would be one to use these. I think this is my favorite part of her entry "...and those who feel that childbirth is a special enough event to wear a special gown." Are there women who don't think childbirth is a special event? Is the baby coming out of you not special enough so you need a fancy gown to throw away too? This woman is maddening.

I will say, if someone got me one as a shower gift or something I wouldn't not bring it along but I would never go out and purchase a $24-$28 fancy hospital gown just to throw it away.

Sure, it's special. It's also bloody and gory and painful as hell. Insanity, I say.

  • That is ridiculous. I feel like this is brought on by people who blog about their birth and take all kinds of photd. Gotta look stylish during labor, ya know.
