Best News Ever

I finally got around to doing our taxes.  I had been procrastinating because I realized we would owe this year after getting H's SSDI W-2 because I had no idea SSDI was taxable and we did not have taxes withheld.  Apparently you have to fill out a Voluntary W-4 which I have now done but didnt know about prior to the W-2.  So I was thinking we were gonna owe around $10k and freaking out because we could not afford that.  I was 99.9% sure it would be that or more.  Well the accountant just called and we owe a little less than $2k.  This is SUCH a HUGE relief.  I am so happy!!!!

  • Awesome news! I don't blame you for procrastinating or freaking out. I would be flipping the eff out if we owed $10k.

  • I'm glad you got it done so you're no longer worrying about it.
  • Whew! That would certainly have me stressed out too!

  • That is a huge relief. FWIW, we had some tax issues this year not taking into account some extra 10k we didn't realize was taxable and ended up owing a good 2k and it was incredibly stressful- I'm glad it worked out in your interest!

Sorry you had tax stresses too.  H had worked a little for a company that was giving him a 1099 and we knew we'd owe taxes for that so I had set aside more than I expected to pay for that, just to be safe.  However I hadn't accounted for the SSDI.  What really saved us was our out of pocket medical bills.  It was a major deductible and evened out the SSDI but I wasn't sure it would so I was ignoring dealing with it for a long time!
