Apartment life with plants???

Me and my DH live in an apartment on the third floor. We have a little patio with flower boxes that hang off but was looking for some ideas to make it even more homey and decorative with flowers. Kind of like a little backyard escape :) Any ideas???

  • Google container gardening. There are tons of ideas for all types of flowers and foliage, in any light conditions.

  • How much light do you get on the patio? Make sure you pick plants that like that amount of light.  If you get good light how about some hanging garden plants? I lived in an appartment and had a hanging garden and loved it.
  • I live in WI (Zone 4b) and have a north facing apartment balcony that (in the summer) gets about 6-7 hours of direct/indirect sunlight daily.

My 2 things that I absolutely love in my balcony pots are cardinal vines (attract butterflies and hummingbirds)

and Nasturtiums (the flowers are edible with a peppery flavor and honey nectar in the bottom of the flower- they're great in salads!).

Both of these can be bought really inexpensively in seed form and they go crazy when they're happy making a big draping, vibrant color palate of reds, yellows, and oranges.

    Have fun!
