Doctor appt update

We had an appt this morning with the doctor and the baby sounded great. The doctor was rushing off to a Delivery, but she ran in the room to meet with us quickly. So, she was rushed, but still attentive etc. She measured my belly (quickly) and then said I was measuring slightly ahead and would love to get us another ultrasound to check sizing!!!!!! I am SO excited about the bonus ultrasound in two weeks. And I feel like she was slightly rushed and may have just measured me slightly off.  She did tell me not to worry and that measuring big is better than measuring small. And so many things could pact the measurement, how he was laying etc. I am just hoping to not have a ten pound baby!! Lol.

Anybody else get the "measuring big" thing when pregnant?

Re: Doctor appt update

  • I've heard mixed opinions on the "measuring big" thing. Some women hear it, and have an average sized baby (6-7 lbs). Other women hear it, and have a small baby. Then there are people like me, who hear it, don't believe it because of previous comment, and then, do in fact, have a big baby.

The good news is that measuring big is pretty much always good news. That means you've got a healthy babe in there - you on the other hand, may fail your sugar test. Gah!

I did my GD test two weeks ago and passed it. Yay!!!

  • I measured big with both pregnancies. Kellen was born at exactly 40 weeks and was 8 lbs 12 oz and Tessa was born 10 days early and was 7 lbs 10 oz. I think it all depends on how they are laying and stuff. My dr. said both times when I delivered that I make big babies lol, Kellen was a little big on the above average size, but I think Tessa was about average. I am sure if she would have been born closer to her due date she would have been around the same size as Kellen. I think it all depends.
  • I have never measured big, but I just wanted to say that's cool that you get another u/s for sizing!  I know that I'm excited to get a bonus one this time too even though it's for different reasons.  Yay for seeing babies!  :)
    Married in 2008 - DD born in 2010 - EDD 6.15.2012!
  • I measured big towards the end of my pregnancy. 36 week growth ultrasound showed Molly weighing at least 8 pounds. She was born at 39 weeks weighing 7.10. Knowing what I know now, I think it was her position that caused the measurements to be off. Yay for another peek though! That was the ultrasound where we found out she looked just like her Daddy.
  • I measured big.  She was born at 37 weeks at 7 lbs. 3 oz.  I got lots of ultrasounds due to high fluid.  The only estimate I remember is 6.5 pounds at 32ish weeks.

I think it has something to do with his positioning. Looking down at my stomach and I can see it is much further out than my boobs. More so today than the last few days. So either that or her hurried measurement. OR my husband who was a ten pound baby. I was five pounds lol.

  • I think belly measuring is kind of a crapshoot too. I measured right on track with Taryn and had an "average" baby at 7 lbs 8 oz. With Tessa, I measured right on track as well based on the belly measurement, but was induced due to IUGR and had a 6 lbs 1 oz baby.

    And yay for another ultrasound!

  • I was always a week ahead with the belly measurements... Landon was 6.15.
  • Yay for another ultrasound. I measured big with Liam for a good chunk of the pregnancy. They estimated at my 36 week growth ultrasound that the babe was measuring around 6.5-7 lbs. I think they were pretty close too, since he was 9 lbs, 6 oz when he was born at 40w4d.
