Aw, the poster asking for cheap honeymoons DD'd.

Guess she didn't like us saying wait until you could afford it?

  • Don't get a lot of DDs on this board. Guess she also didn't like people asking how old she was. I am putting my money on somewhere in the 18-20 range.

  • LOL not surprised.
Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • Seriously, it's not like any of us were nasty or anything. We just said wait and a few of us questioned her age.

And yes, I put her in the 18-22 age range. Ah, to be youthful again...

    I'll take my 30s though.

  • Not sure about anyone else, but the "I like water parks and animals" comment she included made me laugh.

  • I saw that! I like waterparks and animals too.

So does my 7 y/o nephew and 5 y/o niece.

Yeah, that was interesting. Did she ever say how old as was? Maybe I'm just a stuck up biitch, but if you can't afford a night at an indoor water park, you probably shouldn't be planning a honeymoon, or a wedding!

No you aren't the only who thinks that. If you can't afford a wedding - much less $200 for a hotel room for a night - maybe you need to re-think your priorities. And I'm sorry, but if her FI isn't contributing at all either, then how is he as a partner for those big things?

  • There was a DD?!  On the Travel board!?  Can't believe I missed it!
  • I'm sorry I missed it all overnight; sounds like it got interesting.

I guess my back-country camping suggestion didn't go over so well then? Hey, there are definitely animals!

  • I just want to know how she planned a wedding for $1,000. My cake cost more than that.

I was too cheap for a $1000 cake, lol.

Our wedding on a budget for 160 guests was still about 15k tho, 1000 seems impossible.

She was in the Midwest, right? My small-town Indiana cake was $300 for 100 people, and I didn't even go with the cheapest bakery around. If I'd had fewer guests and a backyard reception, I'm pretty sure I could have DIY-ed together a pretty little wedding for $1000. Secondhand or simple dress. Guys in their own suits. Limited flowers. Probably a dry cake-and-punch reception. Yeah, it's doable. Tough but doable.

...come to think of it, XH and I spent more than our wedding budget on travel each of the last five years! I guess that's why I spend my time here instead of on TheKnot! Haha!

I got the impression that the groom might not even show up, much less any guests.

  • Her: "Help me! I am planning and paying for a wedding all by myself with just $1000 because my dull fiance won't even give me more than $50 to help. I want to take a honeymoon now even though we have no money because my mom says that if we don't go now, we never will. I want to use all the money we'll get from our wedding guests but my fiance says we shouldn't count on getting any. My fiance never likes to go anywhere but I like waterparks and animals, so I looked at some water park in Sandusky, and that was too expensive. Then I looked at Vegas cause I heard it's really cheap but I couldn't find a way to afford that either."

Board: "Lots of us took delayed honeymoons when we could afford them and do it right. If you make it a priority and save all the money you get plus a little from each check, you could take a trip in a few months."

Her: "But I want to go now cause momma says if we don't go now we never will!"

    Us: "How old are you?"

    Her: crickets and then DD

  • Yeah - it was pretty awful. The guy did not sound into getting married at all. And her mom didn't sound like much help either.

  • I only come on here every so often for recipes and now trying to plan a trip with DH this summer but thanks for the recap.... I was dying to know what had gone down. For real Kalahari in OH is only $250 for the romance package and it includes breakfast. DH and I took the family last weekend but with dd being only 16 months old we really could not ride anything so being the nerds we are we plan to go back just the two of us. I agree if you can't afford that and DULL fi will only give $50 you are in trouble!
  • Oh man, I am so sorry that I missed the original post. The OP sounds like a trainwreck. i'm baffled that she thought that since they couldn't afford a HM to a waterpark in NW Ohio that they could afford Vegas. Wow.
  • sorry for the dumb question but what is DD'd?

Or just deleted in general. People still say that they "might DD" for privacy reasons when they're posting personal background info. Since it leads to confusion and catch-up threads like this one and is generally considered a cowardly response to board drama, deleting a post that has replies is sort of against forum etiquette. ...and yeah, this one probably deleted because she didn't like the responses she was getting.
