Philly ODDyssey HM?

Has anyone run it?

I'm going to be in PA during the race and I'm considering running it. It would be my very first HM and in a city (and state) that I've never been to before...and I would most likely be running it alone. So it makes me pretty nervous to think about. Plus it's only 16 weeks away, which kind of makes my stomach drop out of my butt.

Anyway, has anyone run it before? Good/bad experiences with it?

Re: Philly ODDyssey HM?

  • I ran it last year. Decently organized, small/mid-sized race. Not much fanfare around it. It's in May, so a little too warm for my liking, but I'd consider running it again. Here's my recap.

  • Oh yeah, lack of sports drink on the course (claimed to have it at miles 7 & 11, but never saw it) was one thing that bothered me about it. I don't carry my own and normally don't need it, but it was hotter and more humid that day than I was expecting.

Easy in and out parking if you'll be driving yourself, and you can leave your gear in the car, which is a +.

  • Thanks for the info! Was the course fairly flat? I didn't even think about heat...that might be a problem seeing as I'm from Alaska :(. Do you remember how hot it was?
  • Haha, guess time has jaded my memory. Just reading my own recap, forgot about the porto-pot issue.

There was a breeze, but it was mid 70's and quite humid. Definitely not hot, but warmer than I prefer for halfs.

Pretty flat course, not congested at all, goes mostly along the river through Faimount Park which is pretty.

Bottom line, I wouldn't travel specifically for it, but it's a good local race if you'll be in the area,
