Safari Information/Recommendations

We are looking at doing an African safari in 2103.  Any recommendations on reliable travel agents for this and an idea of the cost.  Also, if you did one, how long was your safari?

TIA.

ETA: I will repost on travel board as well.

Re: Safari Information/Recommendations

  • We've been on safari twice, once in South Africa once in Kenya. Both trips were amazing, but I think if it is your first time, I would recommend South Africa.  I've also heard amazing things about Tanzania, but haven't been there (yet).

In SA we were on safari for 3 days and in Kenya for 5 days.  I wouldn't go for less than 3 days if you can afford it.

Neither trip was exclusively a safari trip so our overall cost wouldn't be helpful and I don't really remember what just the safari component cost us.

I'm happy to share any other info about either trip - where we stayed, how we did our research, what we liked/didn't like, etc. Feel free to page me or PM me.

  • my sister did a long safari last year on her honeymoon, email me at sssssm_2000 at yahoo and I'll email her for any info she can spare and send it on to you, give me until next year as she's OOT right now. I know she did a TON of research for it.

  • A couple of my coworkers went on a safari recently.  I'll get the info from them when I get back to work - and send it your way.
  • we recently got an awesome catalog from National Geographic with all kinds of cool trips that they do and there were definitely some safari trips in there. I don't know anything about them but they look fantastic :-)
