Present assembly advice.

We got quint a few presents that need to be put together (one is a train table and one is a fireman dollhouse).  Should we put the toys together before Christmas or put together on Christmas day?

My family always put toys together on Christmas day.  It was a fun activity.  Husband's family put them together the night before.

Re: Present assembly advice.

  • And for a little clarification, the kids didn't put toys together in Husband's family elves did :)
  • Split the baby?

Ok, bad word choice Stick out tongue, but maybe, put together one 'big' present (from Santa) and leave it out (open and ready to go) and then wrap the others and assemble together.

Disclaimer:  I'm way too dumb to think that up, that's what my sister did when her kids were young and it was really fun (for them and the night before drunken assembly ;)).

  • Caveats:  1) the wrapped, unassembled are for together assembly in the a.m.

    2) the night before 'drunkenness' was post-kids going to bed (and it was probably only the college-aged aunt that was actually heavily drinking).

  • Wait.  The night before involves drinking?  He didn't mention that!
  • I vote the night before:-)  My parents have some great stories of drunken Christmas elves assembling bikes and such.    My grandparents have a great story about assembling a scooter for my dad after drinking too much eggnog.

  • Santa usually assembled one big lego set we got but the rest was left for us to do. In retrospect, I think my dad just enjoyed putting them together :-) And there was no drunkenness on the part of our Santa's elves, I'm sure.

  • DH and I build J's presents the night before, because a) its now become a tradition for us to do it and b) we get a chance to play with the toy and know how is works before he gets a chance. We also then know where the off button is.

  • I vote the night before. Add alcohol and it's all good!

  • I vote for night before. There is something even more magical about Christmas when you wake up and find already-assembled toys under the tree. Much more exciting than opening a box!

    Really important...

Night before is what I would do - there could be impatience from kids that could end in tears and that is no fun on Christmas Day...

Another vote for the night before.

Plus you get to find out if any parts are missing, if you need fresh batteries or if the toy is broken.

Growing up, assembled un-wrapped toys were from Santa.  All wrapped presents were from "real people".
