What are you reading?

Let us discuss what we're reading, or have been reading, this week. I'm still in a fic slump. Le sigh. I have found an amazing Draco/Hermione fic, if you're into that sort of thing.

Isolation summary: He can't leave the room. Her room. And it's all the Order's fault. Confined to a small space with only the Mudblood for company, something's going to give. Maybe his sanity. Maybe not. "There," she spat. "Now your Blood's filthy too!" DM/HG. PostHBP.

I'm also reading Stephen King's "It" slowly but surely.

Re: What are you reading?

  • Still working on Days Like This. Almost done.

I have the Inside Man update waiting for me and Yes, Mistress just started updating again. I need to finish MsKathy's Paper Moon too. Oh and He Who Dares, Watches updated yesterday.

I think those are the only WIPs I'm following right now that have updated. I'm waiting on the A River Between Us update... it's supposed to be the Epi I think.

Nothing else if I can remember right.

  • I'm on a break from FF. It was beginning to take over my life.

I just finished The Night Circus this week. It was Ah-Mahzing. I just got Maggie Stiefvater's The Faerie Queen's Deception. I'm excited to start it.

  • I have Maggie's new one Scorpio Races. Just got the ARC from my book club. I really need to read it and get it sent on. Maybe I'll add that to the to-do-list for this weekend.

  • I am reading a real book and having a hard time continuing....

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.  I know, I know, these are super exciting popular amazing and whatnot, but really - this one is soooo boring.

I thought the first one was boring, but everyone kept tellingme to stick with because it would get better, and it did.  I really enjoyed the entirety of the second one.  But this last one?  I've skipped about 100 pages so far and I still have about 350 to go.  I just really want to know how it all ends, but at this point i can't even keep the characters straight anymore so I should probably just wikipedia the summary.

I really don't understand why these books are so popular.

I've heard from most people that these aren't exciting reads. I read the summary and decided against picking them up. Just not my thing. Good for you for keeping on them though!

I applaud you for sticking with them. I couldn't even get through the first one.

Some of the "popular" series don't really appeal to me. Mortal Instruments series? Couldn't do it.

  • Just started Prisoner of Azkaban.  Yes I am just now... in this stage of my life reading the HP series, and I gotta admit... I'm hooked.  I read a book and then watch the movie the whole way through.  I can't tell you how many times I've seen bits and pieces of each movie on TV and was sooo confused that I stopped lol.  Now it all makes sense!!

I am also just starting City of Glass the third book in the Mortal Instruments series.  Lovin me some Jace like whoaaa.

I also am trying to finish Mocking Jay.. I just don't know what my problem is.  I loved Hunger Games.. but I can't seem to get through this last book and it's so frustrating!!!

I haven't read a fic in months, we've taken a much needed break from each other for a while.

ETA:  I just realized that two of my book addictions are being dissed and dismissed... oh well lol, I'm a peer pressure reader and I'm liking them just fine ;)

  • Rereading Twilight before the movie comes out!

I'm also reading the Duggars' new book, A Love That Multiplies.  It's pretty preachy, but I'm kind of fascinated by them.

Listening to The Girl with No Shadow by Joanne Harris.  It's the sequel to Chocolat.

  • Harry Potter- Order of the Phoenix . I was really stupid and decide to check out Goblet of Fire, Phoenix and the next one....Yeah I had no idea they were that large. I feel like I am trying to speed read through them and with the baby I only have about 30 minutes to read a day. I think I may just finish Phoenix and return the other one. I need an HP break. Maybe I will then do a Twilight re read before the movie.

  • I'm reading Richelle Mead's Succubus series.  I liked the first book but was pretty meh about the second.  I'm reading book #3 and if it doesn't capture my attention soon I'm going to abandon the series and just get the summaries off of wikipedia.

I'm also reading some books I loved from my youth as research for this year's NaNoWriMo - The Root Cellar and The Shadow In Hawthorn Bay, both by Canadian author Janet Lunn.

I have a couple of updates to Amishward to read.  I also just got caught up on Fold Your Wings, Sideline Collision, The Vagina Monologues and Yes, Mistress.

I read the first one all the way through and wasn't impressed. At all. DH read and liked all of them. Made me watch all three of the 2 hour Swedish films on Netflix Streaming. It was torture.
