I want a kindle!

Who has one?

Who has a different ereader?

Do you love it?

I was just about to buy myself a kindle and then this week they came out with a couple new ones that you can pre-order that will be shipped in November...so now I don't even know what I want.

Re: I want a kindle!

  • I have an iPad that I use as an e-reader, but I often get distracted by my apps. I do love it though!
  • I have one and I love it.  I didn't want one because I like 'real books' but Jim got it for me for Christmas and I have read so much more on it.  It's lightweight, easy to read and easy to use while commuting.

I feel the same way and that is why I don't have one yet. But when I realized that most of the classics are free, and our library is lending them out too I really do think I would use it a lot.

  • I enjoy my real books too, but I am usually reading more than one at a time, so it is great for lugging all of my books at the same time!

Thats another reason I like it because when we go on vacation I usually take at least 3 books and I think it would be awesome to have for that.

  • I have to say I love my Nook. I got it because everyone I knew had a nook so we are able to share books that way. I have not tried a kindle, but I have no complaints of the nook,

  • I think it is so funny how these different ereaders travel through different groups. I don't know anyone with a nook, everyone has a kindle.

  • I wasn't sure about getting one either as I like real books. But I did order the new Kindle Fire - thought I may as well check it out and if I don't like it will either return it or sell it on... DH has an ipad and I have an ipod touch, so I didn't really want to shell out for an ipad and I think the Kindle will be good for traveling. We'll see later in November when it arrives!

  • I have the nookcolor and I love it. I highly recommend going to the stores to see them in person first. Just a note for you: B&N has the largest ebook store (over 2 million titles). Also if you want to be able to go in and ask questions, with the nook you can do that at any B&N. Like I said before I think going into the store to see the devices (kindles and nooks) will be well worth it so you can see which one fits your preferences. Good luck deciding =)
  • I've had my kindle for a few years now and love it.  I can't imagine not having one now!  I commute on a crowded tube 1.5 hours each day, and we also travel a ton, and it is so convenient to not have to carry a bunch of books with us and I love being able to easily read with just one hand.

I know people with the nook and the sony ereader as well, and they seem to have good reviews too.  I'd totally recommend getting one, you won't be disappointed!

  • DH got a IPAD and he loves it. It has the ability to be a e-reader. He reads books on it all the time. He loves it! It comes with free books from the one we use and we are reading Winnie the Pooh, it was free! It's awesome bc it's not just a ereader, but has so much more on it!

  • I have been resisting the kindle/nook trend because I too love real books. However, last night I did download Kindle for PC on my laptop and downloaded a couple free books from Amazon. That made me happy. Now I sort of want a Kindle. They have them for $79 on Amazon today (regular 109). It's killing me.

  • I also recommend going into the store and seeing which one you like better.  I have the regular Nook and I love it.  The library didn't do Kindle lending when I got an e-reader so that was my biggest draw towards the Nook.  I love how easy and convenient it is to "carry" a lot of books at once and it's much better than lugging around some of the larger books I read.  Plus, the e-ink is SO easy to read in the sun...I had less glare on my Nook than DH had on a regular book when we were in Mexico.

  • If you do book clubs do the Kindle. They have the real page numbers that correspond to the book which makes it easier to look things up. Even when everyone has a kindle if they view their text in a different size or with a different spacing it will change the "page number" you're on.
  • The Kindle does not work in my area. We had one, but it wasn't working right and had to return it. My mother and my sister both have the Nook and they love it.

  • The book page nummbering works on nook as well. Besides how the publisher formats the book determines if the book follows real pages or not. that is not something the device does, it is how the file is formatted.
  • I have a Kindle, and I love it. I'm also excited that I can now check out books from my library on it - yea!  I've got the 3G one, which is I love because I travel a lot, and I don't have to remember to make sure I've got plenty to read before I leave.  I've used it for several international flights, and I definitely love that I only have to take my Kindle and not several books, and the battery life is fabulous.

  • I love my kindle! I've never met anyone who regretted their e-reader decision. I just have the basic kindle, its not color and not 3G. If you want all that I would suggest and iPad or other tablet.
  • I have a nook and I don't like it. I really wanted it one, so I could bring lots of books on vacations, etc., but I prefer the feel of a real book - being abel to easily go back to a page and re-read something, etc.

If it hadn't been a present from my DH, I'd sell you my nook, ha. I've read one book on it in the 18 months I've had it.

  • We have a Nook and DH loves it.  I haven't been able to use it much since he is always traveling with it on work trips.  Eventually we do want a table when one DH likes comes out, but the Nook was WAY cheaper than a tablet.  We bought the Nook before Kindle had library books available and that was the main reason we bought the Nook.  DH (tech nerd) had other reasons as well that I can't remember.  Everyone else we know has a table or a Kindle.
