Talk to me about Dr. Bronners

I finally picked up a trial size at Target the other day and I have been using it as body/face wash but I was curious what others use it for.  I have seen the 18 uses thing on the crazy label but some seem a bit out there to me (toothpaste? hmmm).

So what have you found it effective for and also what have you found it NOT effective for?

Side note - my experience with it as face wash has been very positive thus far! I have very oily, acne prone skin (even have to use rx skin creams to keep things under control - blech). Most cleansers are either not cleansing enough or go too far and I end up super dry so I was skeptical that this would hit that perfect balance my skin requires but it has been great. Also the peppermint is nice and tingly =)

Re: Talk to me about Dr. Bronners

  • My husband loves the peppermint for body wash, but I can't handle it getting near my lady parts.  It's way too tingly.

I've used it for bathing the dogs, mixed in a spray bottle for all purpose cleaner, and in a foaming hand soap dispenser.

Great idea! I didn't think of that! I have never found a regular dog shampoo that really worked to get them stink free so I will try this. Thanks!

  • I guess I'm kind of boring.  I use it as my daily body wash and occasionally as my shampoo.  I use it to wash my dogs as well. I use the fragrance-free, baby type.

  • I don't like using it full strength, so i dilute it for almost everything.  For previously mentioned reason i don't use it in the shower.  I do use it lots of other ways:
    - Backpacking soap (dishes, clothes, laundry, body)
    - Backpacking toothpaste (one tiny drop is the perfect amount -- more that that is pretty gross)
    - Travel soap (dishes, handwashed laundry)
    - Foaming hand soap -- about 1:10 DrBs and water, plus EOs, if desired, all in a foaming soap pump (i use the orange soap with orange and grapefruit EOs.  Almond would be nice, too.
    - Sometimes for cleaning (very weak solution in water in spray bottle)

  • I'm gonna try it as shampoo - it definitely suds enough to qualify.

And when I get really brave I will try it as toothpaste - definitely sticking to the one drop!

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions!

Yeah, I can't handle the peppermint as a body wash either.  We use the lavender bar soap in the shower, and the baby mild unscented in our foaming soap pumps.  The peppermint also makes a great insecticidal soap.

  • Everyone else has posted great ideas. I just wanted to give another recommendation for its use when traveling. It's so convenient for sink laundry!
  • In addition to everyone else's answers, I use it to mop the floors. I use the baby stuff to wash the baby and put a few drops in a spray bottle as a wipes solution.
  • I shave my legs with the peppermint one.
  • Mix it with baking soda to make a soft scrub.

  • We use mostly in the shower as a body wash. I have put in my hair but I feel like it drys it out too much. My husband also has used it for dishes, and on camping trips. He was a boyscout so he got me into it. It lasts us a long time when we buy the big bottle, I love that!
