Sentinel stays vigilant despite Irene

I feel bad for the fella's that had to hang around in the hurricane, but this make my patriot heart very proud.

  • T showed this to me yesterday.  I love that nothing stops them from standing guard.

  • So, there's this

"The Tomb Guards have contingencies that are ready to be executed IF the weather conditions EVER place the Soldiers at risk of injury or death -- such as lightning, high winds, etc. This ensures that Sentinels can maintain the Tomb Guard responsibilities while ensuring soldier safety

But they still stood guard in a hurricane which has things like lightening and high winds and tornadoes and high risk of death?

Or did they execute the contingencies?  And if they didn't, what exactly would constitute a risk of death if not a hurricane?

The article mentioned that there is a little guard hut that they can stand in instead of marching in front of it, but I think that might be up to the discretion of the Soldier.

And these guys are so hardcore I doubt any of them want to take cover.

I remember seeing it last time I visited Arlington.

  • This is amazing and sort of chokes me up a bit.  This is one monument that I absolutely have to visit in my lifetime.

It's not that they can't stand down.  It's that they don't stand down.  Guarding the Tomb is their mission, as fighting in combat zones is a mission for others.  They take it very seriously.
