Shoe scuff marks on hardwood floors

Anyone have a good method for remving shoe scuff marks from hardwood floors?  I tried magic eraser, and it left a faded mark (looks like it removed some of the sealant or stain or something).

Re: Shoe scuff marks on hardwood floors

  • try a clean white sock or a tennis ball!
  • You aren't supposed to use magic erasers on painted or finished surfaces.

The best way to get those up is to roll up a ball of duct tape with the sticky side on the outside and rub the scuff off. It won't damage paint or finish on your floors. This method works for linoleum and vinyl too.

  • A giant pencil eraser and a soft cloth (old tshirt) removed scuff marks on my old hardwood floors.  I used the pencil eraser to rub away the black scuff mark.  Then rubbed the area with a soft cloth to remove the traces of eraser.  I then swiffered the whole area to clean up any residual dust.

  • we have real hardwood and DH uses WD40.  Just a spray on a cloth and it rubs right off.
  • I heard that a tennis ball works too!
  • Great suggestions, ladies.  Thanks!
