XP: Anyone stay at any Starwood hotel in New Orleans?

There are a couple that I have seen to chose from. The W French Quarter, The W New Orleans, The Sheraton and so on. I'm wondering if they are all within walking distance to the attractions or only the French Quarter one.

Re: XP: Anyone stay at any Starwood hotel in New Orleans?

  • I was just there...didn't stay at those...but in general, I found most things in NOLA walkable if you had the ambition to walk. It is hot there, and by the end of a walk, we were sweaty and I was trying to look cute the whole time and wore the wrong shoes...but everything is walkable. I believe those bigger hotels are on canal street, which is a border of the french quarter. A street car can take you up  and down canal street...another street car can take you a long the river. To walk from canal street to the other side of the french quarter would take about 15-20 minutes.
  • The W and the Sheraton are on Canal St. It's a few blocks but totally doable. DH and I stay at the Sheraton quite a bit there and love it. The W is on our list of places to stay at some point. And safety wise the Central Business District and along Canal St. is fine so we always feel fine walking over to the Quarter. Let me know if you have any more specific questions; we go to NOLA about once a year and I lived there for awhile growing up.

Oh, and the street car that runs Canal St is the same line that goes by the river. There's another line that crosses Canal St. and takes you through the Garden District. Makes staying on Canal St. convenient for that mode of transport.

  • I stayed at the W in 2001 and it was great both for the location and for the service.  I remember it being pretty close to Harrahs the casino too.
