The Mother's Day poll made me think.... my mom is retiring from teaching this year (go mom!) and my sis and I are trying to come up with a gift. My sister thought about doing a photo book or contacting old students, but I am not sure how feasible that is. And honestly, I don't think she wants anything teacher/school related, since she is done with that part of her life.

She really likes traveling, but she already has their vacations planned for like the next 3 years or something! She likes running, lakes, swimming, hiking, reading. My dad usually does the massage/spa type thing for her, so I am getting stuck on ideas.

Any suggestions on a nice memorable retirement gift?

Re: Retirement

  • Maybe you and your sis can treat her to a girls day out. Go for a mani/pedi, shopping, lunch, or whatever she wants to do. I think spending the day with her daughters would be a wonderful gift to her.

  • What about something like nice luggage for her trips, or gift cards to some stores she likes so that she can get a nice traveling wardrobe?

  • I agree with pp.  Although if it was my mom, I would probably combine the two suggestions (kind of) and go on a short day or weekend trip with the sisters and mom to enjoy time together and her love of travel.
