I have a couple of questions...

I should O 36 hours after trigger right?

How long does washed sperm live? I have been reading 6-12 hours!  Holy crap that is short!  When I did my IUI, I was 26 hours after trigger, so not supposed to ovulate for 10 hours if it was right on time...does that make sense?

Should the IUI be done closer to 36 hours?

Re: *****KittyLove*****

  • You should ovulate 24-36 hours after the trigger depending on the kind of trigger you had and how much they gave you. Did your Dr tell you 36 hours or did you read that? My trigger was the belly kind and my Dr said it would be 24-36 hours, but if we had done the kind that goes into mucle it would be closer to 36. I had my IUI 24 hours after trigger, becuase that is what my clinic does. You want the sperm to be waiting for the egg not the other way around. Also it takes a little time for all those sperm to get up where the egg is. You just cut thier journey in half and they don't have to deal with the cervix but it still takes some time. I once read that it takes sperm 18 hours to get from your vagina to the egg at the overies.

Sperm lives 6-12 hours OUT SIDE of you. It is INSIDE you though now! So it lives a longer than that. My RE also incouraged us to BD that night and even the next day if we wanted to. Warning TMI: DH and I had our IUI on a Friday just like you guys and spent the weekend at home, enjoy each other hoping to make the best of it. So that would be my suggestion.

Also lastly if you are seeing an RE, trust them. I know that is hard but Ava gave me that advice and it really brought peace to me and my mental state. Feel free to ask me any questions you would like. I hope it is okay that I pray for you, not only that this works but that you have strenghth. T-ttc took a lot out of me, as I know it does many woman, a little help from above can't hurt right?

Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions.

My HCG shot was 10000 units and was given subcutaneously (like in the upper right butt cheek/hip area)

DH and I are planning on dtd (that is what we call it...doing the deed..LoL) tonight at about 8 as that will be 35 hours post trigger and then again tomorrow and Sunday...just for a little cushion on the timing.

And thank you for the prayers...that really means a lot to me.  TTC is very rough, as you know, and even though I am religious and have faith, sometimes it is difficult for me to pray about this because I don't understand why it is happening...I know that He has a plan though and that I will be pregnant when it is the right time for DH and I...He has been there for Aaron and I through some of the roughest patches most couples will never endure and He is there now.....I really appreciate it!

  • I really REALLY struggled with my faith during our t-ttc. Like you I had a hard time praying after months of feeling like my prayers had gone un answered. Then a blog I was reading had her last and final IVF fail and she titled her post "Thank you Lord". I read the whole thing with tears streaming down my face because her faith was so inspiring. She said that while her prayers for a bio child might never be answered, when she prayed for strength he always answered. I began praying for strength and it got me through some hard moments and some of the best too. Now when the world hands me lemons I pray for strength, what I want may not always be in his plan BUT I know he will be there for me and give me strength no matter what.

Excellent words of advice.  Thank you for that!
