Camping with an infant, Hume Lake

We are going tent camping at the beginning of June, up north at Hume Lake for two days.

Anyone gone camping with an infant? Tips or suggestions? Or anyone been to Hume Lake? This would be our first trip up there.

Re: Camping with an infant, Hume Lake

  • We haven't been camping with L, but I kind of want to see if there's anything left at the leach this summer. Where is Hume Lake?
  • It's up near Sequoia National Park.

I was really nervous about the thought of camping with DD at first but now I am getting really excited. Probably because I was working on my excel sheet of things to bring. I can get a little OCD with lists especially when it comes to trips! :D

The beach sounds like it would be fun as well!

  • I haven't been and don't have a little one, but we are always looking for places to camp. I'll have to check it out. Do they allow dogs?
  • You're very brave. I hate tent camping and couldn't imagine doing it with an infant. Good luck! ;)

I believe they do. Here is some info on Reserve America about the sites:

The pictures I have seen by just doing a google search are prettier than the ones that are posted on that website.

  • It's good you're starting her now...we took Sarah for the 1st time when she was aobut 16 months old.  She had a FANTASTIC time during the day but never slept at night.  She was just too cold.  It didn't matter what clothes we put on her or how many hats and blankets we put on her, she just wouldn't sleep.  The last 2 nights I stayed in our friends' trailer with her and she slept fine.  BTW, this was over 4th of July weekend up in Santa Margarita which is inland from Pismo, so it wasn't like we were camping in the winter.  :-)   We're nervous about taking her again...

  • we took both kids camping for the first time around 5-6mths. But not tent in my parents rv and Lori is right even in the rv it got cold, so lots of layers and sleeping will probably be an issue just like it is anytime the baby sleeps anywhere other than home.  Bring extra of everything!! If you have a bumbo chair, don't forget that. Baby powder works wonders for getting sand out of all their little crevices. Anytime we take them camping now we just have them walk EVERYWHERE get them as tired as possible so come nighttime they tend to just crash while we are cuddling in front of the fire.

  • How did I miss that post?! I was on there lurking like normal last night. Thanks Leslie!
