MIL - Quick Vent

With facebook, having your mother in law 5 hours away isn't far enough.

Re: MIL - Quick Vent

  • That's why there's a saying about never adding family on facebook.

  • Ditto sarah.

For some reason, not wanting to friend your ILs on FB is a flameable offense on the nest, but I don't want that kind of daily contact with MIL.

    Hope is not a strategy.
  • Well if I could turn back time.... I have it to where she can't see anything really on my profile or my statuses. I wish there was a way to secret delete her.

  • You *can* block her from seeing your profile and status feeds.

ditto. i did this with my MIL, SIL's, FIL.It's nice they wanted to befriend me and everything, but it just got REALLY irritating how many times MIL and SIL's especially would comment on EVERYTHING i posted....and especially when it had nothing to do with them....that and the smartA$$ comments i would get....i just couldn't handle it anymore...so that blocked feature came in nicely!

  • I did that 2 years ago.... Sorry how I worded that was confusing. :)  But can I block messages?

    Block the instant message? http://www.wikihow.com/Block-Someone-in-Facebook-Chat

If you want to block them from sending you messages, posting on your wall, or commenting on your posts, just google it.

  • That is exactly the reason why I don't want facebook. Dh is always saying he us going to delete his mom.

  • I blocked my MIL the second I found out she had a FB. This way she can't even try to friend me, and I can pretend I don't have FB.

  • Great thing about having a technologically-challenged MIL is she doesn't even have e-mail! lol

But I do feel your pain. I can't post anything on FB without family freaking out and reading way too much into it...so I've given up on really posting anything. My sis has MIL online with her and when they were planning the wedding sis was constantly getting links from her. My advice is to ignore it...claiming you deleted your FB or don't have one by blocking her entirely could have bad implications if she found out the truth IMO.

  • And see, I let my MIL be friends with me on facebook.  If I didn't, she would call me every.single.day wanting to talk about nothing.  If she comments on something of mine on facebook, I can just ignore her.  I had to reluctantly call her last night about something, and she kept asking me about my latest status update on facebook.  I ended the conversation quickly because I don't want to deal with it.  I would rather be able to ignore her than listen to her ramble on the phone (she lives 6 hours away).

ETA: Now I do not, nor will I ever let her have my e-mail address.  She has no reason to have it, even though she can come up with 100 excuses (trust me, I've heard them all).  The only things she sends DH are stupid things her brother has sent her that she then forwards to DH.  He shows me some/most of them, and so I don't need them clogging up my inbox either.

  • Ya, 5 hours away really isn't enough lol. My MIL knows nothing about computers so thankfully she doesnt have a FB and if she did she probably wouldnt even try to friend me bc she doesnt like me, butif she did I would either ignore it or add her but block her from everything, and it sounds like you did that already which is good. I added my BIL and I'm kind of regretting it even though I don't think he ever looks at my FB.

I did this too. Then I eventually just blocked every single one of them.
