Warrior Dash Ladies

I never really thought this would be something I would want to do, but we now have one coming to MI and a ton of co-workers are doing it, so I am interested. Online it actually looks pretty sweet and like a lot of fun.

I just have questions about the swamp and mud areas...Are they man made? Our race is in a county park, and I am just a little concerned about running through a swamp area and not knowing whats in it. I am not worried about fish and things, but I am terrified of leeches. Someone please tell me if this is silly.

Also, I am worried that I do not have the endurance to participate in something like this. Ours isn't until the end of July, so I would still have some time, but I am just now able to complete a sub-40 5k, and I have been running since last June.Is it something where there are people of all shapes and abilities, or is it pretty hard-core competitive?

 Thanks Ladies!

Re: Warrior Dash Ladies

  • OOhh! They JUST added a ton more openings to the one in MN! I've never done it either but I'm trying to talk my friends into doing it with me.

I hear that it's almost more just about the experience of it all more so than being super competitive. If you look at some of the videos on youtube there appears to be lots of different ages and shapes - which leads me to believe "if they can do it I can do it!"

    Good luck!

  • I'm doing ours with a bunch of friends. I'm at about a 34-36 minute 5k. My understanding from them (they ran it last year) is that you run, then stop to climb an obstacle, run some more, stop again for another obstacle, etc. I don't think it's just flat running at top speed like a typical 5k. I think it's also much more social than I would have imagined previously, lots of people in our group so we will have all levels of fitness (me probably being in the bottom 1/3).

  • I did mine with a friend that was injured and not training and we pretty much walked the most of it since I didn't want to leave her. Ours was a little over 3 miles and we finished in 50-ish minutes and didn't even get lapped by the next wave. People were stopping and taking pictures and having fun with it. It wasn't at all super competitive.

The "swamp" areas were just dug holes in the ground. We had like 5 muddy, thigh deep holes right from the start. Ours was held at a park that caters to buggy and four wheelers so I assume everything was man made.

Do it you will have a blast.

  • I am doing one in PA in June. I am at a 31-32 min 5K.  I am pretty pumped - looks so fun!  My 4 SILs and I are doing it together..2 of us training for a 10 miler in May so hopefully that will help us prepare.
