  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? I only tested because my boobs felt sore and I never have sore boobs during my period. Of course I tested like three or four times because I didn't believe the results.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why? I chose my OB because I have been seeing him since I was 18 for my annual exams and trust him with taking care of me through my pregnancy.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help? I have only had a few charley horses and stretching my muscles seems to help for the most part.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything? Yes and the only thing that really helps is moving or switching positions if I am sitting or laying down.

Updates: I feel horrible because my OB had a minor stroke over the weekend, but I am also nervous because I will have to see a new doctor this late into my pregnancy. I really wish my OB could deliver LO, but his recovery is more important right now.

  • First days: Who did you have for postpartum help? Did you hire a pp doula or other mother?s helper?

I had my Mom stay with us for about a week after we got home from the hospital and that was a Godsend. DH went back to work right away, but he was still a huge help in the evenings, nights and weekends. We also hired a housekeeper just before I delivered and we kept her on for a good 9-10 months. ;)

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? I actually never peed on a stick. I would pee in a cup and then put the stick in. I hated the idea of peeing on the stick.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why? We are having a midwife and the OB that is on call.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help? No, no problem sleeping. So freakin' tired I think I could sleep FOREVER.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything? Not sure :-)

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? I bought a whole bunch of tests at the Dollar Store.  I took one too early and got a BFN, but even though I knew it was early, I really didn't think I was pg.  When I hadn't started my period on CD 28 though, I became suspicious.  I just found a text I sent to T that day saying, "hmm...still haven't started my period" to which he replied, "test in the morning!"...my temp was still high on CD 29, so I tested and got my BFP.  I was shocked.  I took every last one of those Dollar Store tests, plus a couple CBE I also had.  I think I took 8 in total, and they're all still in a ziploc bag under the sink with those two lines.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why? I got a recommendation for a great OB from a couple friends/nesties (the same person over and over), AND she wasn't accepting patients, so I booked an appt with her and asked her to take me anyway.  She agreed.  At the time of my first appt, they offered to let me see a midwife also, if I wanted.  Our second appt was with the midwife, and I LOVE HER.  LOVE LOVE LOVE her.  So, now I see my OB every other appt, and my MW the others.  I love how it has worked out.  My MW and I have both communicated to my OB that I'd prefer to labor and deliver with the MW's at Kaiser, and my OB is super supportive about it.  If I had to choose care from only one of them, I would hands-down pick my MW (even though I genuinely do like my OB a lot!)

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help? I haven't experienced this at all, no.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything? I'm not 3rd tri, but I started getting this at 11 weeks.  I sneezed the other day, and it hurt BAD!  Ouch.  I didn't realize there was much I could do to get rid of it.  Walk it off, change positions.  I imagine it will get a little more uncomfortable as I actually get into the 3rd tri, eh?

Updates: We had our anatomy scan yesterday, and got to see the baby moving all around (which I started feeling last Friday night, and today am feeling a LOT more than ever before...LOVE it!!).  Everything seems to have been well with baby.  We remained Team Green, yay!  I have my 20 week appt with my MW next week.  I can't believe I'm nearly halfway there.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line?

I only tested when I was late.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why?

I have an OB and a NP, I did not ave an option for a midwife - Kaiser close to my house only had a few Drs with openings for new patients.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help?

I have cramping in my legs sometimes, but I have not taken anything for them.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? Yes.  With both DS1 and DS2 I tested earlier than recommended and since I had a box of 3 (or however many) I kept testing each day until I was out of tests.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why?I have an OB and haven't had a reason to look elsewhere for care, so I've just stayed there.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help?Nope

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything?not really.

L&D: How far apart were your contractions and how dilated were you when you were admitted to L&D? How long after being admitted did you have your baby?Contractions were 1.5-2 minutes apart and I was 7cm when we were admitted.  DS1 was born 6.5 hours later.  I think he would have been born sooner after admittance, but he was sunnyside up and we had to deal with that.

First days: Who did you have for postpartum help? Did you hire a pp doula or other mother?s helper?DH was home for the first month.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line?  I only tested if I knew I was late.  I never tested early, which kept me from obsessing.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why? I had an OB because I love mine... but I would have considered a midwife otherwise.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help? I had them only a couple of times, but I could usually stretch my way out of it.  I was taking calcium supplements, which I'm sure helped.  I think the yoga helped, too.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything?  N/A

L&D: How far apart were your contractions and how dilated were you when you were admitted to L&D? How long after being admitted did you have your baby? My contractions started at 3 minutes apart and never changed, so that's where I was... and I was 3 cm when I arrived at the hospital.  I couldn't believe it- I could have sworn I was at 8.  :)  After being admitted, it was another 19 hours before the birth.

First days: Who did you have for postpartum help? Did you hire a pp doula or other mother?s helper? The first week, it was just me and The Husband, and I'm glad- we had some great bonding time with baby and it wasn't too hard yet.  Then my parents arrived, and were hugely helpful for 1 and a half weeks.  By about 3 weeks I was on my own, and by then I was doing fine.

Updates:  I saw my ob today and I don't have PPD, which is good.  Just a lot of frustration, which (as I know) is normal.  Yesterday was my hardest day yet, by far.  If I could make it through that, I must be doing ok.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line?

I tested a couple days after my missed period and my temp remained high. I did keep testing because I had a 3-pack of First Response and a 2-pack of the ClearBlueEasy Digital test. I took all 5 tests over 5 weeks.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why?

I have both through my healthcare provider (Palo Alto Medical Foundation). I alternate appointments with my Certified Nurse Midwife and my OB. I love them both, and their staff!

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help?

    N/A. Knock on wood.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything?

My round ligament pain feels like I've been kicked in the crotch, or pulled a crotch muscle while doing the splits. It hurts the worst when I've been sitting a long time, so my solution for now is to keep moving.

Updates: I'm in the third trimester!! I've been instructed to count baby's kicks twice a day and she kicked 26 times this morning. My little overachiever! We'll see how she does after dinner tonight. And I passed the 3 Hour GD test after failing the 1 Hour by 5 pts. I'm excited to be in the home stretch Big Smile

I can't help myself, I test on the day AF is due. I keep testing when it's positive because DH never believes it until it's a DARK line. I have been pregnant twice but only one stuck. Still tryin!

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? I wouldn't say I was an addict. Since I only had a couple of cycles where I actually ovulated, I wasn't testing every cycle. For this BFP, I tested on Friday morning, my beta was scheduled for 15 dpiui that Sunday. When I tested Friday AM it was around 5 am and I didn't see anythign - I headed to the gym and when I got back decided to look again and saw a faint line. I then tried not to pee all day and tested again when I got back from work - and it was a very quick BFP. Then I did one every day for about 5 days - even though my beta was doubling - just to be sure.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why?Well, I have KP so I don't have a lot of a choice, ideally a MW - I like my OB, but odds of her being there are slim. We're trying to go natural and I just really want my Birth plan followed, but I've heard good things about Santa Clara Kaiser so I'm not too worried.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help?No charlie horses, thankfully, but I already take extra calcium w/ Vit D. b/c my vit d is borderline low so maybe the extra calcium helps.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything? I've had RLP since about 15 weeks or so. Not much helps, but it does pass and while it's uncomfortable it's not ever out of control.

Updates: It's a girl! Her name is secret. We're getting started on her nursery and I'm excited to plan it out with the help of some design friends. I've gone a little wild shopping. We also bought our first big purchase, our Bob yesterday. I love seeing it in the garage. And DH bought a new super fancy DSLR even though we already have one because he said he needed bigger, better for his little girl.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? I tested once a week before AF was due because I was having intense soreness in my chest region. It was a BFN. I then tested the day after AF was due and it was a BFP. I really didn't believe it and scheduled an appointment with the OB thinking he'd tell me it was a false positive, soo not the case.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why? I chose an OB. I'm more comfortable with the choice in general. I'm not against a midwife, it just isn't something for me.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help? I've been getting really bad calf cramps, I was told it's lack of potassium but I haven't increased my intake yet.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything? Not there yet, but almost. Just feeling like I can hardly breath bc I think she is slowly running out of room.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? yes, yes, and yes.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why?  midwives are the norm here in NZ.  they are provided to every woman for free.  but i paid for an OB specialist b/c that is what i am more comfortable with.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help? nope.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything? nope.

L&D: How far apart were your contractions and how dilated were you when you were admitted to L&D? How long after being admitted did you have your baby?  i was induced due to low fluid around the baby.  i had an 18 hour failed induction; i only dilated to 6 cm before i had an emergency c-section.

First days: Who did you have for postpartum help? Did you hire a pp doula or other mother?s helper? NZ provides midwives that come to your house for 6 weeks after the birth of your child for free.  after that, you are connected with a plunket nurse (home visits and clinic visits) that helps you till your kid is about 5 years old.  and there are heaps of free services to help with your new baby.  have i mentioned that I LOVE socialized medicine????  :)

  • First days: Who did you have for postpartum help? Did you hire a pp doula or other mother?s helper?

no one .. it was just us from the day we came home. sure we had family come by and say hi and meet the baby but no one offered any help. lots of people were literally SHOCKED to see me out and about 3 days pp. yep we went to the pedi's, target and the grocery store.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line? I only took one test this time. Before I would test a couple times if there was no sign of AF and with our first BFP I took about 5 tests over the course of a week. I was much more relaxed this time!

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why? I think it depends on the midwife or the OB. I really wanted to go with a midwife but I wasn't really thrilled with the (small) selection that I found in casual google searches so I decided to stick with my OB. He's very hands off and supportive and I've heard nothing but good things about him so I'm really happy with our decision, I think I could be equally happy with a midwife though.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help? I notice them a bit, but not so often that I feel like I need to supplement.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything? I'm not sure I know what this is. I have been having some cramps in my lower belly whenever I walk any distance but other than that haven't had any pains other than my back.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line?

I'm still not sure what my cycles are doing since coming off BCP so the first cycle I didn't test at all because I didn't know what 'late' was. Last cycle I did go a little POAS crazy but I blame FF. It had my O date way earlier then it really was so I was testing and of course getting BFN, then it later changed my O date and I didn't test after that. I don't see myself becoming a POAS addict though :)

Last month. Yes. Not gonna lie. I took like 5 tests because I was so sure I was PG. This month...well, I'm determined to be good. I am waiting until Friday.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line?

My cycles were really long/all over the place and I was not charting so I didn't know what DPO I was when I took the first test.  The first was really faint, so I tested later that day and in the AM a few days in a row after.  I ended up using 6 total, I think.

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why?

I would choose MW, but I have an OB at Kaiser that I love who is totally on board with my hopeful plan to have a natural birth.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help?

No, thank goodness.  I hope I escape them!

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything?

I have been experiencing RLP and I find that standing up/moving around while rubbing on the exact spot where I feel the pain helps a bit.

  • TTC: Are you a POAS addict? Do you start testing earlier than the test recommends? Did you keep testing even though you saw a line?

No, but I did buy a few Dollar Tree tests. Since AF is wonky, I never knew when it was coming. I just tested 2 weeks post conception. I did buy a digital test after the Dollar Tree tested positive just to be sure :)

1st trimester: If you could choose midwife or OB, which would you choose and why?

I chose based on the availability of my Kaiser office. No midwives/NP's available at the time that I could find online, so I chose my OB based on her site since she talked about letting a body take its course (I can't stand when Dr.'s tell women they am not "allowed" to go so many days/weeks past the EDD). So far I like her and haven't seen any other OB's/midwives.

2nd trimester: Are you experiencing night time Charley Horses? If so, have you taken something like magnesium or calcium? Did it help?

I did for a few weeks in my calf in the middle of the night. I just tried to eat more bananas and it went away.

3rd trimester: Did you have round ligament pain? What helped get rid of it, if anything?

I think so... Sitting/resting helped. I felt like my pelvis muscle was splitting in half when I walked (especially at my normal brisk pace). I just tried to slow down.

Updates: Tomorrow is my last day at work until September!! I can't wait and hope the baby gives me a week or two at home to finish the nursery, wash some outfits, pack a hospital bag, and clean the house from top to bottom!
