Swim Suit Sizing Help

I hate my size. I am always between 2 sizes and am never sure what to get. I guess I am just writing this since I have no one that will listen to me. Need to get a measuring tape at some point so I can measure myself and decide what size I need I guess.

But I am between 2 swim suits (speedo since I love speedo, tyr didn't have much)

or a tankini (matching bottoms imagine)

When I used to swim, I swam laps/competitively. I know sizing then was different, well for competition you got way smaller sizes.

So I will put my clothing sizes out there for you all to know. I am around 165ish lbs. Wear between a 10 and 12 depending on the cut. I am a 34DD (was a 36 but back to 34).

So of couse for the tankini I am between the M and L. And the full suit I just don't know.

I don't want it too big and have stuff all out in the pool. But don't want to have the equivalent of muffin top on the bottom or back spillage.

I think i need to go to a sports store and try things on.

Re: Swim Suit Sizing Help

  • I can't do much for you right this second - but when I get home today, I can look at my speedo suits and see what size they are.  They aren't my race suits (those were like size 32 and I never wanted to go to the bathroom once I got it on because it was so hard to get into).  My normal practice suits fit comfortably for the size/weight that you threw out there.

That will give you a starting point so you can go try on in a store at least. :)

I like to try on and get my size and then we used to order from the "grab bag" on speedo's site.  It was fun to see what kind of suit you'd end up with! :)

  • I think bathing suits, especially competitive ones like Speedo and Tyr, run small so I'd get the larger of the two sizes.
  • If you're busty, but have smaller hips - it might be easier to go with a Tankini so that you can buy separate sizes in the top and bottom.

I'm the opposite and prefer a 2 piece suit for that reason (need larger bottom than top).  It might help with the in-between sizes thing.

If you're still in between, I would probably go for the smaller size because they can stretch over time and it would be better to be squished in than have it hanging off - especially if you're going to be actually swimming.

  • No help with sizing, but I think the top purple one would be more flattering.  I love cinch waists.
