Just Lost My Job

Being made redundant. In 'consultation period' while they decide - though none of the people in this 'consultation' period so far have been successful in keeping their jobs.

Working from home means that I am spared the indignity of it being announced in the office and doing the walk of shame to the car. But still. It feels a bit rubbish.

Anyone been through this?

Re: Just Lost My Job

  • Wow. That is very harsh, and I really feel for you.

Good thing you don't have to do the walk of shame out of the office, that would be horrible!

The only thing I can offer is that in crisis there is also opportunity. Take some time to relax and re-evaluate what you want to do.

?I'm really sorry to hear that this happened to you - and I hope that things work out for the best!?

Chronically hilarious - you'll split your stitches!
I wrote a book! Bucket list CHECK!
  • I'm sorry.  I hope that you can find another, better job if that's what you want to do.

After 3 years living abroad, we are back in NOVA.
  • It's probably a blessing. The place was getting really depressing - one of my engineers committed suicide on a job last week. (I'm not even kidding about that).

I may have had a less lavish wedding / honeymoon 3 weeks ago if I'd known this was going to happen. DH is an absolute prince about it all though.

  • OMG one of your engineers commited suicide on the job???? ?Jeez....

  • I'm really sorry to hear this, I hope you find something soon.

  • I'm sorry!  This economy stinks.
  • I'm sorry to hear that. ?I hope you can find something even better soon!
  • sorry to hear about the job loss. Hopefully sometime even better will come around in the near future.
  • Thanks everyone. It feels a bit of a kick in the teeth, but I have no loyalty to them really, so I don't expect it in return.

Yes, engineer hanged himself. Not actually ON the client site, but in his hotel that night.  He was meant to be working on my project this week. It was another of the engineers that found him (also meant to be working for me this week).

So while, things are bad, they are not THAT bad for me. I'll probably look back and laugh at this.

It does make me want to go home desperately though.

  • I'm sorry.  I hope something even better is right around the corner.
  • That sounds awful, I really do hope that something better will come along really soon for you.  I am so sorry that your company is going through such a rough time, especially for those employees affected by the suicide.

  • Very sorry to hear this.  You'll find something else soon.

Wow that makes 3 nesties in a short time to lose their jobs - I didnt realize that things are so bad.

  • So sorry that you had to deal with this.  I've lost my job in the past and it's just not fun.  Makes you question yourself.  Just remember that it's probably more that the job wasn't a great fit - and who wants to work for a company that seems to not be able to keep employees.  Good luck in finding something new.
  • I am so sorry to hear this.  It may seem hard to believe, but it is possible that better things are in store for you.  It is difficult though, no matter what.

Lots of hugs, and wishing you lots of luck on finding something that is even better for you.

  • Thanks guys - you are all really nice to post such kind things to a stranger like me!

I'm going to try and stay positive - like remember all the horrible clients I now don't have to deal with, and all the free time I now have to master Guitar Hero 3.(Rock!!)

I'm not even going to limit myself to working in telecommunications. I'd love to be a runner in television. Gosh, anything - I'm so open to new ideas right now.

Anyway - I really appreciate the nice things you have all said, it warms the heart and dries the eyes.

  • That's pretty rough all around.  So sorry you're going through all that.  Better luck with the next job. Beer  Have a drink, on me.
  • Sorry to hear this.....Here's hoping that it leads you to the job of your dreams!
  • Oh no - sorry to hear it!   Sounds like it was getting to be a rough place to work in any event.

I was part of a massive lay-off 9 years ago and I remember being out one night with a bunch of my co-workers who were also being laid off and one said to me "One day you will look back on this and realize that getting laid off was a great opportunity."   He was right. may take time to realize, but new doors will open & better things lie ahead.

btw - we met at Andrea's going away lunch - hi!
