Most unique wedding gift

What was the most unique wedding gift you received and that you love - I need some ideas for a non-traditional couple.

Re: Most unique wedding gift

  • We got all cash at our wedding with the exception of one ridiculous gift from DH's family that we didn't like.

At our shower we got mostly all things off of our registry.  We did get a new digital camera that wasn't something we registered for.  We loved that!

  • Digital camera. The BILs and SIL gave it to us during dinner, so we could take it straight to the hotel with us, therefore, we had it for our HM!
  • DH's best man got us a variety of bourbons and beer local to his area of upstate NY.   We loved it.
  • Someone bought us these wicker type baskets from our registry and filled it with an array of different wines. It was really different and he wrapped each bottle in tissue paper so it was bright and colorful. I'd say just tailor it to something that goes with their personalities.
  • For my shower we got some great fun gifts, like bocce, beach chairs, a travel picnic bag thing and some fun board games. The picnic bag is great, and was filled with wine glass, plates, silverware, cloth napkins etc. for the wedding a cousin matted and framed our wedding invitation, which was very sweet, and something I wouldn't have thought of.

i also love the platter we got from there....decorative...alll seacreatures around the edge, and our names and wedding date in the middle....

a handmade chip and dip pottery piece from a family friend that has a buisness

  • We only got two boxed gifts for our wedding, neither of which were anything great. However, at our shower, my cousin gave us a Paris-themed gift, since we were headed there for part of our honeymoon.  She gave us some guidebooks/maps, and she also wrote us a letter and included her favorite restaurants, shops and out-of-the-way places she recommended.  It was really thoughtful, though I guess it would only work if you knew their honeymoon destination really well.

I love the idea of framing their invitation, though. My friend got one of those for her wedding, and she just adored it.

  • We got all money for the wedding. For the shower though, we had a tear jerker gift. My grandmother passed away 2 years ago. She was always making jello molds and gave each one of my aunts (she had 8 boys so there were a lot of weddings) a jello mold with 1 green jello (for St. Patricks's Day)  and 1 red jello (for Valentine's day). My grandmother left one with one of my aunts and I got a card that said "Whenever someone married one of her boys, Nana gave this gift with special instructions on when to use it. You know how Nana loved to shop early so she made sure there was one for you too." It was so unexpected.

    That is really sweet.

  • We got money for our, but in the card from his uncle was 100 bucks in 1's and a condom and an absolutely disgusting message that I will not type here... ::rolls eyes:: he is clearly not one of my favorite people in DH's family.

  • We received a vase with our names carved out of it.  It was from Etsy.  We also received a tree (We have a new house and yard.)  This friend is also a neighbor just down the street.

Aw, I like the tree idea. My friend's gmother died and someone gave the family a tree to plant in her honor. My friend was a little "WTF is with the tree?" about it (to me of course, not the tree giver!), but I would've loved it if it was me. So I guess that's one of those depends on the person ideas. But I love it.
