Re: iphone - verizon or at&t or do I want a droid?

• I've heard with the iPhone on Verizon you can't multi-task the way you can on ATT. i.e., if you want to look up directions for a friend, you have to hang up and call back on verizon. on ATT you don't.

I agree, AT&T.

• This is true for any phone on Verizon's current network (which they are upgrading to a 4G to make stuff like that possible). I have a droid on Verizon and I like it, and I'm on the fence about whether I want an iPhone or not.

I will say that the example in the previous posts is something I've never honestly come across as a "man I wish my phone did that" kind of thing. I'm sure once you have the option, you don't know how you could live without it, but it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me, personally.

• Since I am already a Verizon Wireless customer and do not missing being able to multi-task like that, I am absolutely going to get an iPhone when I am up for a new phone in July. I have been a customer of VZW for something like 13 years now, and I really am happy with their service, and I have not been willing to switch away from them just to get an iPhone.

However, if you are not yet a VZW customer and the service is equal between the two providers in your area, AT&T may be a better choice if you want the iPhone. We don't have good AT&T coverage around here, so this would not be an option for me.

• AT&T.

If you get Verizon's CDMA version of the iPhone, you'll have a difficult time using it if you ever travel out of the US.

If you're in an area with wifi, you can do that on Verizon.

I've heard way too many complaints about dropped calls with AT&T to sign up. These complaints of course are all over the media/internet, but I also hear them constantly from friends.

I'd rather be able to make a phone call when needed than to try to talk and surf at the same time (particularly because the only places I can think of where I'd want to do both have wifi).

I also don't travel internationally often enough for global calling to be an issue. Verizon will lend you a global phone for up to 3 weeks though, which is nice.

I have 2 Captivates (for sale, actually) that we just didn't like. I mean, they were indeed the closest to the iPhones we'd found but they just simply didn't compare. There was a lot of glitches and the apps would open and close on their own. The app store...agh...not cool or useful at all.

• If the network is fairly well covered, I would go ATT for the multitasking and the fact that ATT will likely get a new iphone soon.

I honestly have noticed a strong improvement in the ATT network over the last couple months. I have only dropped 1 call in the last several months.

Also, the data on ATT is faster and I find that I use my iphone 80% of the time for data rather than talking so I appreciate the faster download speeds.

• Thanks. I appreciate all your opinions. I guess I'll just see which network is better and which plan is less expensive and go from there.

• We live in the NYC metro area and MH has an AT&T iPhone whereas I have a Verizon Alias 2. My phone CONSTANTLY drops calls, especially in our apartment, whereas he's never dropped a call.

• We switched from VZW to ATT 2 summers ago and never looked back. We never had issues w/service on either network but I feel that ATT's customer service far exceeds VZW on every level. Never any issues with dropped calls ever.

Not only that but ATT just started offering free Mobile to Any Mobile (basically free calling to any mobile number on any carrier in the US). It's only available with certain plans but this is amazing for us and we were finally able to drop our calling plan down to save a little bit of money.

• I'm probably late to this but my vote is for an android phone all the way. If you're leaning toward an iphone, I'd go VZW personally. Their network is better and the phone is not likely to have the issues it has with AT&T currently.
• 1. I would get an iphone but I am biased. Love mine.

2. multi-tasking would be the only thing you would lose going with verizon. I don't think it should make or break your decision. If it were me I would check the coverage maps of both companies and see which one would benefit you best. Plan prices are pretty similar.

• I'm also on Sprint and I love my Droid phone. I have the HTC Evo and although we are apple everything else in our home I wouldn't trade my Evo for anything. Just tossing out another option.
