Their 2002 Volvo broke down. It's a cute car, but it's considered a luxury car, I guess. Now they are having trouble finding someone to fix it. They found one guy...I guess the transmission must be rebuilt. It's gonna cost them $5,000.
What? That's nuts. They are so so so broke...no way she can afford that. But her DH is crying about how he loooooves that car.
If you can't afford it, then you can't afford it. Sounds like it's time to find a cheaper vehicle. They are only 19 and they have a baby....finding another "luxury" car should not be a priority.
Re: FFS, younger sister.
Punch him in the face.
That's my go-to response today for most people.

At 19 with a baby, if they can find 5K to fix a transmission, I'm impressed. Otherwise, good shoes and public transportation sound like good ideas.
I'm not holding my breath with them finding the money.
I know that they are getting tax money soon and they were talking about taking a cruise with the money, but they aren't getting $5k.
Part of me feels bad for them, because it wasn't that long ago that I was 19 and wanted it all. But now I see things differently...but when I give them advice (never when they don't ask), and I don't tell them what they want to hear, I'm a jerk who doesn't understand.

Haha, right? My poor 12 year old car is showing signs of dying. We are looking for a new car, but we won't be looking for serious for a while longer! You know...when we have the actual money? And we'll be looking for one that is actually in my price range!
