One of the students in the senior class I work with in school died this morning from meningitis. I'm so heartbroken for his family. He was a really good kid with a promising future, who played soccer and stayed out of trouble.
I can not imagine the heartache his family is feeling at such a loss.
I am going to arrange a candle ceremony on the soccer field for this monday night. I hope the a$$hole administration doesnt give me a hard time about it.
Just wanted to vent to some one...

So sad.
Does a candle ceremony pose a health risk to other students? Most kids I know have gotten the vaccine that prevents most forms of meningitis by their senior year of high school. If this boy picked up the infection from someone at school (most likely scenario), scheduling a ceremony at which hugs will be exchanged could expose others to risk of infection.
No, we were in touch with the health department and they said no risk at all. They said it is actually very hard to contract it and it really takes the whole saliva thing to transfer....kissing (open mouth) drinking from same cup, sex, toothbrushes etc...like mono..
I have a meeting at 7am tomorrow with the administration.
school just called, 1/2 day tomorrow for his wake. 6pm memorial on the football field. im sick
6/50
I read about this in the newspaper. The student had even been vaccinated against menengitis.
So sorry.
