BOTB

Sorry I'm late again. The holidays throw me off :)

TTC: If you use OPKs, what brand do you use? Are there any quirks to that brand?

3rd trimester: If you bought a glider/ottoman set, what did you get? Do you recommend it?

L&D: What comforts did you or will you use in the labor room? Music? Hydrotherapy? Aromatherapy? Massage? Where did you hear about them and what made you decide to use them?

First days: Do you have a diaper brand fits your LO best? If you have a cloth diaper service, when did you start service?

Re: BOTB

  • I think everyone is thrown off by the holidays, no need to apologize.

TTC: If you use OPKs, what brand do you use? Are there any quirks to that brand? I used the dollar tree brand a few times. The only thing I noticed is that they say you don't have to limit your liquid intake but they were only accurate if I stopped drinking 2 hours prior to taking them.

1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family? For my siblings we just told them. We gave my Mom a onesie that had her signature line on it (that we had seen prior to getting pregnant) and then showed her the sonogram pic. We asked my Dad if he had any guesses on the sex, he guessed my siblings and I all correctly, it took him a minute before he caught on. Nothing too crazy.

2nd trimester: What pregnancy books are you reading? Which ones do you recommend and why? I like "Your Pregnancy Week by Week" though I skip portions of the chapters that I don't feel apply to me. I'm enjoying Ina May's Guide to Childbirth too, (thank you tri_bride05) I've been reading it slowly though. I like the latter because it makes me feel pretty relaxed about labor (which tempers out everyone that tells me how painful and awful it is. Ugh)

BONUS Q: What holiday traditions do you look forward to passing on? H and I have been talking about this. We want to celebrate St. Nick's day on Dec 6th with our kids, teach them about other cultures' holiday celebrations (something that we didn't really have) and we'll definitely be lying to them about Santa for as long as they'll believe it.

ETA: I felt the baby move for the first time on Sunday, and we got a little mini Ultrasound thanks to an ER visit (everything's fine) both were amazing! Our baby looks like a baby now, fingers and all. Looking forward to the 'big' ultrasound next week.

  • TTC: If you use OPKs, what brand do you use? Are there any quirks to that brand? I used the ones where you get about 30 refills for your little stick. I didn't pee on them. I peed in the cup and then put the stick in. I didn't see any quirks, except it said to test every day until you got a positive, I tested when I felt I would get a positive. I had gotten the very cheap ones off of Amazon.com. I felt they were more environmental because they didn't have the plastic casing etc. However, they worked like crap. I never ovulated per them, but as soon as I tried another brand per a nestie suggestion, it was spot on.

1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family? We called my parents after the 8 week appointment right before meeting DH's parents for dinner where we told them. We called our siblings. I have had an easy time telling people through messanger on FB or gChat, but a rather hard time in person. I have let DH or family or friends do the sharing for me.

2nd trimester: What pregnancy books are you reading? Which ones do you recommend and why? I am not doing much reading. In the past--while I nannied--I read the entire What to Expect series. I tend to over think things if given the opportunity, so less is more right now.

BONUS Q: What holiday traditions do you look forward to passing on? We are really looking forward to having the magic that can only be experienced by children in our Christmases. I know next year will probably be too little, but we are going to do St. Nicholas day too (very German and Swiss, so right up my alley and in my culture), I love PP about teaching about other cultures Christmas then too. We will be giving Baby an ornament every year on St. Nicholas day in their shoe for her to hang on the tree. I want to start going back to a Christmas Eve service and seeing the nativity etc, haven't done that in a few years as I haven't found a church I like down here, or we're traveling. Lastly, I want to celebrate the ephiphany... haven't decided exactly how yet... but I will.

  • TTC: If you use OPKs, what brand do you use? Are there any quirks to that brand? N/A

1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family? We (mainly DH and I was with him) told our parents all at once after our weekly softball game around 8 weeks pregnant. I wanted to wait longer, but DH couldn't hold out a few more weeks than he already had.

2nd trimester: What pregnancy books are you reading? Which ones do you recommend and why? I read more pre-pregnancy (wanted to know what I'd be getting myself into before it was too late) and read Modern Babies, The Expectant Father (rented for DH, but found interesting for myself too), and Baby 411. Co-worker just gave me the What To Expect series, so I might glance through that. I'm waiting for Ina May's Guide to Childbirth to become available at the library so I can read that too.

3rd trimester: If you bought a glider/ottoman set, what did you get? Do you recommend it? N/A

L&D: What comforts did you or will you use in the labor room? Music? Hydrotherapy? Aromatherapy? Massage? Where did you hear about them and what made you decide to use them? N/A

First days: Do you have a diaper brand fits your LO best? If you have a cloth diaper service, when did you start service? N/A

BONUS Q: What holiday traditions do you look forward to passing on? We're pretty low-key for the holidays, but look forward to her joining us for the next one. IL's also decided to retire from hosting Christmas Eve and told DH and I that we will be hosting next year (ugh!), so we'll have to decide how/what we want our traditions to be. I won't be following theirs, since I'm not a fan of everyone opening all their gifts at once. I like to see people open their gifts individually and see their reactions.

A co-worker shared with me that her grandson hangs his own stocking on Christmas Eve for Santa.... I thought this was super cute and may use this once she's old enough.

  • TTC: I did not use OPKs, although I was temped to try.

1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family?

Just told them.  Nothing too special.

    UPDATE:

I am almost 13 weeks pregnant, due date of  7/10/11.

  • Already posted on the baby board, but I'm so happy for MommySteph!!

TTC: If you use OPKs, what brand do you use? Are there any quirks to that brand? I used the Clear Blue Easy Digital and liked them.  They're pricier, but my O date was easy to predict based on charting.

1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family?  We tried to do as many as we could in person or by phone before letting the word spread.

2nd trimester: What pregnancy books are you reading? Which ones do you recommend and why?  I like Your Pregnancy Week-by-Week because it's less doom-and-gloom than WTEWYE.  I also liked the Girlfriend's Guide to Being Pregnant and Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy.  The Husband liked The Expectant Father.

3rd trimester: If you bought a glider/ottoman set, what did you get? Do you recommend it?  Just posted on the baby board about this- we're currently shopping for one and willing to take recommendations!

BONUS Q: What holiday traditions do you look forward to passing on?  Stockings, big Christmas breakfast, cookies for Santa, decorating the tree, pretty much all of the standard Christmas traditions.

UpdatesWe chose a doula, and we're starting the Birthing From Within series of classes at Harmony this week.  I can't believe how close I'm getting- The Husband is upstairs assembling our crib right now!!

  • 1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family? I told as many as I could in person, a few by phone, then the rest via FB.

2nd trimester: What pregnancy books are you reading? Which ones do you recommend and why? So far I have only read What to Expect When You Are Expecting. It has been pretty spot on with some things. I have had two people tell me they were going to loan me other books, but that never happened.

BONUS Q: What holiday traditions do you look forward to passing on? I want to continue my mom's tradition of buying my children a new ornament every year so they can leave home with something to decorate their trees.

  • TTC: I am using the Clear Blue digital ovulation tests. They cost a fortune, but they are the ones that really work. Otherwise, I'm looking at the line, trying to figure out, is it? Isn't it?

  • TTC: If you use OPKs, what brand do you use? Are there any quirks to that brand?  I mostly used the CBEFM, but when I was using OPKs I preferred the CBE Digital one..super easy to read. :)

1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family?  We waited to tell most of our family in person once we felt comfortable.

2nd trimester: What pregnancy books are you reading? Which ones do you recommend and why?  I read and really liked Your PG week by week

3rd trimester: If you bought a glider/ottoman set, what did you get? Do you recommend it?  I got this glider from Best Chairs.  It glides, reclines and swivels.  It's awesome!

L&D: What comforts did you or will you use in the labor room? Music? Hydrotherapy? Aromatherapy? Massage? Where did you hear about them and what made you decide to use them?  I had a scheduled c/s, so the best comfort was my family to keep me occupied while I waited to be taken into the OR.

First days: Do you have a diaper brand fits your LO best? If you have a cloth diaper service, when did you start service?  I'm still trying to figure out which diaper we like best.

BONUS Q: What holiday traditions do you look forward to passing on?  DH has lots of holiday traditions, so I'm sure we'll pass on all of them.

UpdatesDS turns 3 months old this week and I'm getting ready to go back to work. :(

  • TTC: If you use OPKs, what brand do you use? Are there any quirks to that brand? I used the cheapies from the internet, then switched to the CBEFM the month we were successful.

1st trimester: How did/will you announce your pregnancy to friends and family? Told all our family in person at about 10 weeks. Friends we told as we saw them if it was convenient, otherwise by phone/email

2nd trimester: What pregnancy books are you reading? Which ones do you recommend and why? I have WTEWYE and the week by week one, but I've stopped reading them. They all freak me out to much, I'm too much of a comparer

3rd trimester: If you bought a glider/ottoman set, what did you get? Do you recommend it? I have the same one as Char, although we got the rocker/recliner version. I LOVE it!

L&D: What comforts did you or will you use in the labor room? Music? Hydrotherapy? Aromatherapy? Massage? Where did you hear about them and what made you decide to use them? We took a Bradley Method class so we are using Bradley Method relaxation and massage techniques (and have been practices which is AWESOME for me :) ) and have made a labor playlist of soothing music.

Updates: I am now being seen twice a week for NSTs, it stressful and I'm kind of scared. I really just want her to come now. I'm nervous that my decision to try a natural birth might not be good for her and I'm doubting my choice of trying to stay home as long as we can, may decide to head in earlier to get her on the monitors (my original plan was to try and avoid monitoring as much as I could). I'm also pretty certain that if my doc says at any time we should just induce or do a c-section i'm going to cave and say yes.
