I was really excited to see your posting about reading a Karen Kingsbury book...are you a fan or was this your first one?  I'm trying to read all of her books - I started with the Baxter series and LOVED it.

Re: **Lawren**

  • I've read almost all of her books. I took a break for a while and then picked up This Side of Heaven. It was really good. I cried like a sissy. She was the author that made me fall in love with reading when I was 19, so I will always have her to thank for that. I hated reading all through out high school and never had any desire to pick up a book. DH worked at LifeWay Christian Store while he was in college and he actually bought me Ocean's Apart by her and then I read the 911 series she wrote, followed by the Baxter series. So you can tell by the trend I couldn't get enough of her books. She certainly knows how to tell a story, that's for sure. What is the most recent title you've read by her?

I love Karen Kingsbury!  I've read almost all of her books (though I'll admit the latest series about the younger Baxters has lost my interest).  I recently read Unlocked and it was really good.  My favorites are the 911 series.

  • Are you talking about the Cody Gunner series? I haven't picked any of those up. I thought I could only take so much of one family ;)

  • I believe the Cody Gunner series is completely different.  The Baxters have had a bunch:  Redemption Series, Firstborn Series and Sunrise Series (14 books in all) and now there's a Bailey Flannigan series starting in March (I guess really she's not a Baxter but she's been part of the other series).

  • Oh ok. I've read the Redemption, Firstborn and Sunrise series. I didn't realize she was continuing on with them.

  • Ack!  Sorry - I didn't see the responses till just now.  I can't remember the last one I read...I think it was Shades of Blue and for some reason it took me a really long time to get through it.  Oceans Apart was probably one of my favorites (besides the Baxters)

I also cant seem to get into the Flannigan books either or Act 1 and Act 2.  I have Divine sitting on my nightstand and it's my next one to read.  Is This Side of Heaven the one where the guy is sick or dies and they find out that he had a little girl...and the neighbors with down syndrome come over to talk to the parents?  The neighbor couple are actually the siblings of the two from the Cody Gunner series.

Her books are just so easy to read.  I zipped through most of them.

  • Yeah, that's This Side of Heaven. And Divine is really good. It might actually be my favorite book by her. You'll have to let me know what you thought after you read it.

  • oh good!  I hadn't even heard of it but when I saw it at the library, I grabbed it.  I'll definitely let you know.
