Re: Kennel Has Arrived!

  • This just happened in my head:

-Aw, she had a daughter named Kendal!  Congrats!

-Wait, did I know she was even pregnant?

-Wait, did she name her daughter Kennel?  WTF kind of name is that?

-I better open this to tell her congrats on the daughter but she picked a terrible name.

-Ooooooh, a DOG KENNEL arrived.  Yeah, that makes much more sense.

    This made me laugh!

Yay for the kennel. I am trying to convince my mom to put her pup in one while they are gone.

  • Good Luck! It will take some getting used to for both you and him, but it is SO worth it. Getting our dog kennel trained took about 2 weeks and now he goes in there anytime he is scared or even if my 3 year old tells him to go to bed.
  • sweet! Should be big enough to kennel up the husband if he's acting like a douche.Wink

Give it a few weeks of kenneling, he wont like it at first, and then B will freak out and tell you to get rid of it, but keep doing it - you have to train him. Put some blankets, and special chew toys in there for him - give him a rawhide everytime you put him in there, so he associates his kennel with good things.

  • Kennel training our dogs was the best choice we ever made. It really help their separation anxiety! Good luck!

  • My dog goes to the kennel when we do the following things:

    Put our shoes on

    Turn off the TV

I put my laptop away at night (I think that I may be on the computer too much with that one)

and when I tell my husband I am heading to bed.

We did put a towel that we slept with in there with our smell to help with the anxiety.

  • I also thought "I didn't know she was preggo!"

Tiff gave good suggestions - make it special to go there. Mine get a little treat every time (even if it's just a piece of food). A soft blanket (that you don't care if it gets destroyed), a water bottle - the ones that hang on the outside, like for a hamster cage, and maybe a Kong or something like that to keep them entertained and busy!

I love that our dogs are kennel trained. They only go in there when we aren't home and at night. But, they go to the gate that leads to the basement when I:

    * close my laptop (Joanna - I'm thinking the same thing you are!)

    * ask if they want to go to bed

    * depending on who is laying with me, if I get up off the couch for ANY reason. Come on guys, I'm PREGNANT! You don't go to bed everytime I have to pee!

They got baths a couple weeks ago and I forgot to put their collars back on. So today, getting ready to go to the groomers, we put the collars back on. They KNEW they were going somewhere and beat me to the garage door AND to the back of the van where they jump in at.
