Re: BWLO: shoes

  • Zac only wears shoes (and by shoes I mean his one pair of "boots") if I am going to put him down outside in the snow while we play. OR if I know I am going to see someone who will potentially say, "You need to put shoes on that kid."

He wears socks. Or one sock. Or no socks.

His feet are fat and I just can not spend $40 on a pair of baby shoes.

  • Jack got his first pair (of Pedipeds) when he was 11 months. I wanted to get him in a pair 3-4 weeks prior to that, but I was lazy about actually buying a pair. Of course, he was 11 months in September, and prior to that it was summertime, so he was in bare feet most of the time. So I would think the time of the year and how the weather is where you live might come into play.

  • Jackson has always worn Robeez outside the house because they keep his socks on without me constantly tugging them up. He prob won't wear hard sole shoes until he can walk.

  • I still don't. Like Zac, Collin has fat feet. The only shoes we can get on him are the robeez (and I left those at a friend's house) and shoes that are about 4 sizes too long. He wears socks and I'm good with that. Various strangers however question my parenting whenever we are out.

  • We plan on not doing shoes most of the time. Socks or no socks. I have read that you learn to walk better with no shoes. I hate wearing shoes! If we are going outside when she is walking/crawling, I will put shoes on her, but I dont plan on doing a lot of shoes.

I think I heard Keen's are good shoes for kiddos with wide feet.

  • You mean those adorable and way over priced baby air jordans are unrealistic??  Damn.  Baby shoes are so cute.  :)

Yes!  Keens are awesome for wide/fat feet!  I bought a pair on clearance at REI and got them really cheap, like $10.  They were my absolute favorite shoe and now Kodi has outgrown them.  I want to buy him another pair but I can't find them cheap anywhere in his size.  They are hard-soled shoes, but Kodi was walking at 9 months and needed hard-soled shoes when he was walking outside and in public.  He had soft-soled pedipeds for inside, which were also awesome for pudgy feet.  I think he started wearing pedipeds around 6-7 months.

  • Jane has some for fun - of what we have I like Pedipeds the best.

As for socks, Robeez hands down.  Only socks she literally cannot pull off.  Love.  I hat wrangling droopy baby socks!

  • Ryan has very narrow feet - which is uncommon for a baby.  So most shoes literally fall off his feet.

A friend of mine gave us a pair of soft soled ones with adjustable velcro straps that fit fairly well - he's worn them to daycare maybe the last month or two.  They are getting a little small now.  The main reason I put them on him when I did was to keep his socks from falling off all the time.

MIL gave him a pair of soft leather ones (like Robeez but not) for Christmas that have been working well this week.

He usually only wears them to school or if we are going out and I want to keep his toes warm in this crazy weather.  In the house he wears just socks, footie pj's, or bare feet if he's in a sock removing mood.

  • Alex didn't start wearing shoes until she wanted to walk every where we went, so around 12-13 months. And still, I'd keep forgetting them. I remember going to my nephew's birthday party, when Alex was 13 months, and completely forgot to pack shoes, let alone put them on. So my little baby was walking around the back yard, the street, riding bikes, etc. in bare feet. Yep, felt like mother of the year that day. She didn't mind though. She still takes them off every chance she gets, like in stores. She never wears them at home unless she tries to put them on herself.
  • I guess I'm alone on this one but Natalie has worn shoes since she was born.  I got her 3 new pair of See Kai Run shoes and she likes them a lot.

  • I started putting boots on Abby in the fall when she was about 9 months old just cause it was cold outside and she wasn't in the infant seat anymore.  I got her her first shoes to walk in shortly after because she was cruising at that point.
