*jenn* or anyone else with a cricut

I hate reading manuals but I want to play with my cricut tonight.  Any tips?  What size paper/thickness can I use?  Also where do you find the best deals on cartridges?  I'm so excited :)

Re: *jenn* or anyone else with a cricut

  • sorry wasn't able to help you yesterday!

tips: thicker paper works better with new sticky sheets..when you use thin scrapbooking paper, sometimes the sheets get too sticky and your stuff curls up. if the sticky sheet isn't *as* sticky anymore, then use those for the thinner paper.

    papersaver feature is a sham.

i always use the highest pressure, the blade can be set to 4, 5, or 6 for regular paper.

cartridges go on slae for $50 on occasion. always wait for it, because it happens maybe every other month. otherwise, the website i buy it from is http://hallmarkscrapbook.com/ . they have EVERY one you could ever want, while stores have limited choices.

i'd be happy to lend you some cartridges if you'd like to play a bit before they go on sale and you can stock up yourself! once i get home, i'll list out my cartridges...

    hope that helps!

well it's ok because when I opened it last night the mat was bent :(  So I'm exchanging it tomorrow.  Also, I decided to go over the crafts board (since it's been so SLOW over here) and saw someone post this 48hr sale with cartridges for $14!!  http://www.cricutmachine.com/specials (but I haven't read your reply to my other post yet so I don't know how to make it a cool clicky)  Thanks for all the other tips and offer!  Good to know about the paper thing too, I was hoping to be able to use scrapbook paper :-/  Boo, I guess I'll have to wait.

  • also, I'm looking at these cartridges online, how do I make sure it will work with mine?  I assume there are different models?
  • i don't know anything about cricuit cake, since that's the only model that came out after mine (i think). i have cricuit expression, and all cartridges should work on that. i don't know if there are seperate ones for cake or not.

h would kill me if i bought another cartridge...but i'll have to go through that list later and see..i looked at the first few pages and the *good* ones i already have :)

  • so which ones are your favorite?  So this one seems like a basic one, for example, with random little things.  Also, what does the grey vs. black mean?
  • ok, sorry for the 5 billion questions, but I also don't understand something.  All these cartridges have cute pictures with different colored parts within one 'image', like this one, but how do you make them look like that?  I mean, like for the little people, their dresses have a specific looking pattern and then the people themselves are black.  Do you cut out all the little pieces and stick them together?
  • now i don't remember if i have this one or not..i don't think i do. but my cousin-in-law has it...at least i think so.

grey is the "shift" button. in font cartridges, it would be the capital version, but since these are pictures, it's just a nother picture that you can cut.

i use "beyond birthdays" "stretch your imagination" "doodle pups" and "storybook" the most..

  • those are layers. sometimes the shift/gray is for that.and yes..the solid color is the "base", and then you shift and get the layer..so you would cut it out on a differnt colored piece of paper, and stick them together.
