Whiskey?

DH and I are going to friends new apartment (one of these old buildings turned into crazy modern lofts) for NYE.  I bought whiskey stones as part of a hostess gift and would like to give them with a bottle of booze.  Considering the only thing I drink "on the rocks" is Margaritas, I could use some suggestions on a descent (yet not ridiculously expensive) bottle of whiskey to accompany said stones.  I'm thinking something in the $50 range...?

Re: Whiskey?

  • DH drinks Whiskey all the time. I can't stand the smell.

This has a price range break down:

  • DH loves Lagavulin. A little more than $50 though - I think it was $70.

  • jameson is kinda a standard one.

  • Jameson 12 yr is a little smoother than regular Jameson.

Tullamore Dew is also nice - same thing, the 12 yr is pretty good.

  • i will second the tullamore dew- and you can get it in some pretty cool bottles/jugs this time of year.  another irish one to try would be bush mills (black label).  it just depends on if you like the catholic kind or protestant kind better.... that is at least the distinction my family chooses to make.

if you don't mind a quick trip down 95 the total wine on naamans rd has a decent selection in your price range and no tax is a bonus.

  • FIL just bought DH a bottle of Knob Creek too which is supposed to be pretty good.

  • Knob is a bourbon  (aka Kentucky whiskey). And it is delicious indeed.  But there are bourbons I like better (Blantons, Woodford Reserve.  And Makers Mark for Manhattans.  We just got the special Makers Mark 46 and haven't tasted it yet)
