Costa Rica

My fiance and I are looking into going on our Honeymoon in Costa Rica. Staying at the Springs Resort & Spa. A knottie told me to post on here that a lot of people on the nest have been to Costa Rica.

Can anyone give me any information about The Springs Resort in Costa Rica??

Thanks so much!!!!

Re: Costa Rica

  • We went to CR for our honeymoon.  We spent several days each in Guanacaste, Arenal, and Paradisus Playa Conchal.  Arenal was by far my favorite area.  The AI was my least favorite part of the trip.  Their are many nesties who have been to CR.  From what I've seen, more tend to have adventure trips w/ multiple locations than what you're proposing, which is to stay at a single resort the whole time.  I think I've even seen suggestions in the past that you pick a country other than CR if that's the type of experience that you're looking for.  Guess it really depends what you're looking for and how much you're wanting to spend.

  • Thanks so much!! After talking to my Travel Agent we are now looking into staying in CR at a beach resort for like 3 nights and then transferring to the Springs!! Where did you stay in Arenal?
  • We just got back from Costa Rica - it's fantastic!

I wouldn't stay in Arenal for more than 3 days though, which is how long we were there as we felt there wasn't too much to do once we had seen the volcano (park closes at 3pm so go early unless you are with a tour or guide). We also went to the Hanging Bridges which was a nice trail through the rainforest. One evening we went to the Tabacon Hot Springs which was fab! We stayed at the Arenal Nayara - gorgeous and romantic rooms and nice grounds, though we thought the food was so-so at the restaurant. We drove past the "road" to the Springs - it's something like 3.5km down an unpaved road. Didn't drive down to the hotel though but I had looked at it when researching places to stay, it was just a bit pricey for us.

Before we went to Arenal we stayed in Manuel Antonio at the Arenas Del Mar. Another fantastic hotel and really great food. The staff and owner were very attentive. The room was nice too with an ocean view and plenty of wildlife around the grounds. We spent a day at the National Park which has some gorgeous beaches. We also did a zipling tour from the hotel with Safari Tours - awesome and so much fun! DH also had a surfing lesson with a local here.

After Arenal we went to Guanacaste and stayed at the Hilton Papagayo Resort. It's now an AI, so was definitely good value. We did the mega combo tour at the Buena Vista Lodge which has ziplining, a mountain waterslide, horse riding and hot springs all in one tour. It was lots of fun - even in the rain (it rained every day we were there, apparently the worst weather CR has had for a really long time).

Overall we were in CR for about 10 days, we hired a 4wd and drove ourselves between places - definitely a more challenging way to travel as signs can be lacking and a lot of the roads were not paved with huge pot holes, and we encountered a flooded road on our first day driving to MA from San Jose. We didn't get lost and only asked for directions a couple of times... though if you don't like driving I wouldn't recommend it.

    Have a great honeymoon!
