Diaper rash

Anyone know what to do for it? This is Delia's first time having it and it's BAD. DH said when she woke up this morning there was no redness. 2nd diaper change - red. We put Desitin on it. I just changed her diaper again (not even 2 hours later) and it almost looks blistered =( I put extra strength Desitin on it this time. Any other tricks? It looks so painful. Her first cold and her first diaper rash at the same time. Poor baby.

Are you using diapers with dry max? The blistered rather than just red almost sounds the way that moms who have had little ones with chemical burns from the dry max have described it. Maddy has had no issues but lots of babies have.

We use Pampers, but we've used the same ones since she was born and she's never had a problem with them. We're halfway through the current box she's been using. BUT they're size 3s (grew out of the size 1-2s that Sam's has...for some reason they don't carry 1s and 2s separately). Anyway, a friend of mine gave me some leftover 2s that her son used. I don't know what brand they are, but I've been using them the past 2 days. DH mentioned the diapers so we switched back to Pampers this diaper change. Those size 2s don't have dry max, though???

I know it has to hurt =/

The size 2 swaddlers that we used did have dry max I use the baby dry because frankly they work just as well as the cruisers and they are cheaper. If you don't know what kind of diapers the other ones were it is possible that they had something in the material that her skin didn't like. You haven't changed wipes or anything like that did you?

can you go to the store and pick up triple paste or butt paste?

Put a layer of vaseline on first and then the paste on top. DO NOT scrub off all the paste at each diaper change. Pat clean and then apply more.

Of course the best cure for diaper rash is bare skin - so if she can go bare bottom with her butt in the air for a little while, it will heal even faster.

I'm not sure what brand the size 2s are. They're a generic brand, I believe. They're in her room and she's been napping since I posted so I haven't been able to check! I also haven't been able to check to see if her Pampers have dry max. But we've been using the same diapers and same wipes...nothing has changed with the exception of using those size 2s the past two days. I used Karo syrup to cure her constipation and she's pooped quite a few times since then (3 times today). Maybe that has something to do with it?

Gen - we're going to Target once she wakes up from her nap. I'll add butt paste to our list of things to get! I may let her air out once we get back also. We could probably just let her play on the floor with towels underneath her!

When Trevor got a diaper rash, from the anitbiotics, I used Desitin. The daycare people told me to also sprinkle some baby powder on his butt. I guess it was too help stick. he had the runs and he had two red spots on his butt. They also suggest you let the bottom breathe, so if you could just lay her on the blanket with a diaper off for a while that would help some.

We had one like that early on w T. The key is to keep it dry. We used a hair dryer set on cool before diaper cream. Also try aveno baby oatmeal soak and do some time where you let her just lay naked on a piddle pad.

I just wanted to add when we switched from BM to formula Alex pooped every single diaper for about 2- 3 days and that caused a pretty bad diaper rash. So your rash could have come from the frequent pooping. I second letting it air out a bit. We used A & D ointment and Aveeno diaper cream the rash cleared up over night.

We also recommend, if you can, letting them sleep naked, during the night (if during the day doesnt work). if she doesnt normally have a BM during the night, that would give maximum time in open air... If you have a couple of those sheet savers, that would work well! Good luck and I hope she feels better!

Thanks for all of the suggestions!! We got some butt paste. We let her lay on a towel naked for a while, which she enjoyed. I'll make sure to keep the area as dry as possible. She'll probably get some more air time when she wakes up from her nap! Unfortunately, it gets too cold at night to let her sleep naked! I'll definitely try to let her air out as much as possible, though. She doesn't seem bothered by it at all but it's bad. I sent a picture to my mom and she replied with "oh gosh, that makes me want to cry" and she worked in a pediatricians office until about 5 months ago! It came out of nowhere =(

Thanks, girl She's now gone 4 times today! I can't wait for the rash to clear up.

Seren had a diaper rash a week ago (we use the Pampers stay dry at the mo) and the butt paste didn't work - also it was like cement when I tried to wash it off during bath time. I used the CB diaper area wash and diaper rash cream together and it went in a day. Plus it smells really nice :-)

I'll definitely keep that in mind! The butt paste seems to be working. I'm hoping most of it is cleared up by tomorrow. Now we just have to kick this cold =( She's starting coughing along with it....I have a feeling it's going to be a long night. Oy.
