Our friend (dh's bff) was found at 2am this morning.

J knew he was in trouble when no one had heard from him by 6:30-7pm last night and by 8:30 he was making preparations to go look for him (not literally-no need to have two guys in trouble.)  If the truck was gone we'd assume his phone died and if the truck was at the parking area J would know to call 911.  After a couple of conversations w/ the wife and we had a better idea of where he was (Summit Lake on top of Mt. Evans) and she had already called 911.  J met w/ the team who had keys to the gate and they set up at Echo Lake about 9-10mi from where he was.  It took over 2hrs to locate him with their very thorough system.  They have saved 101 people to date this year now, up from 80 last year.

J says the S&R team was amazing.  He had alot to contribute as he and his buddy guide in the area and J knew exactly where he was based on the conversation they had earlier in the afternoon and he was able to help them tremendously.  Luckily the guy made it back to the road but the gusting (40mph+) caused him to be blinded.  Imagine shards of glass in your eyes and them getting pitted like your windshield in a sand storm according to the EMT.  But he wil be ok in the end.  Had he not made it down he'd likely have frozen to death overnight.  He is very experienced in high country and J and he had just been up the day before without incident.

I am so thankful for the t/p/j, his return, and the volunteers that make up the search and rescue teams.  I've also never been so happy to see J at 4:30am.
