Pregnancy Books

NO, I AM NOT PREGNANT.

I am just doing a little advanced research and I don't want to venture over to the bump.

What are your most recommended pregnancy books in terms of pregnancy care and baby prep?  Is 'What To Expect When You're Expecting' still most popular?  And I've heard good things about the Baby Bargains book.

Re: Pregnancy Books

  • ooooh good question.  I will be stalking this post for recs.  dh and i have scheduled the baby talk this weekend...

  • Pregnancy wise, I definitely recommend Baby Bargains for what to buy.  I still use that when I need to buy things.

I preferred Your Pregnancy Week by Week over What to expect when you're expecting.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0738211095/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=1555612601&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0DMFEY4W1PBDDES6Y7PT

Those are the only books I bought...oh and a book for pregnant fatties, but you don't need that.

  • Ooh, there is also a book, what to expect before you're expecting.  I think.  It's about things you can do to get your body ready for pregancy.  I didn't read it, but remember peering at it in the bookstore.  The library might have it, it might be something worth flipping through.
  • Baby Bargains is great for the gear.

I liked What to Expect over Week By Week.  Week By Week had these annoying dad tips like, "Help her out by vacuuming!"   To which DH said, "Do most women have babies with assholes?"

  • i never bought baby bargains i just did the research on thebump/online for what i wanted. like i would ask a specific question about X product and most people would respond with baby bargains reviews and/or personal reviews. i found that fine.

books i have read so far and recommend is ina may's guide to childbirth. i also haev a list of breast feeding books i plan to read.

what to expect never seemed something i would need since again i could just google and feel fine with that.

  • CryingCrying i rate this post sh*tty.

Geez, I didn't realize there were other thing to consider besides taking vitamins.

  • I read WTE a lot in the beginning, right now it's a reference book.

I def recommend Baby Bargains. It's like my bible. It's written by the same "Bridal Bargains" people.  And yes, you can go online and ask people but it's only like $15. I actually take mine when I go shopping or registering.

Also, the BB people make a book called Baby 411 which is kind of a 'what to do when the baby's born' kind of thing.

  • I never read any book from front to back.  I googled when I wanted to know about something specific and then brought it up at the doctor's.  I do own Baby Bargains, WTE and was given Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy as a gift.

  • I like the WTE books and also www.babycenter.com was very helpful

In terms of getting pregnant, I really loved Taking Charge of Your Fertility.  Even if you are just going about it the old-fashioned way and don't intend to chart or anything, it was very eye-opening for me.  There were a lot of things going on in my body that I didn't know about

  • I actually really liked Jenny McCarthy's book--I dont remember the name. It has zero useful medical information but is hilarious and therefore a good way to break up the drone of anatomical parts and how to manage the life of a sacred martyr in preparation for growing a spawn that the other books put forth. It also reduced my alarm when the gross parts of pregnancy like nipples the size of bread plates, hemorrhoids, and strange discharges occurred later because Jenny told me that was normal!
