Does LO still take a bottle? How many? When did he/she stop taking them? Is there a certain age you would like them off of it?

Do you read books/mags for advice on parenting? If so, which ones? If not, do you get advice from other parents or just trust your gut?

Does LO have a Lovey of some sort? Is there an age you think they should be done with it?

Anything else you would like to share?

Re: Babes with Little Ones (2009)

  • Does LO still take a bottle? How many? When did he/she stop taking them? Is there a certain age you would like them off of it?

She still takes them. We're trying to move more to sippy cups (straw sippys), but it's hard with her aversion to sleeping. If she's going to nap at home, she either needs a bottle or to let her cry for over an hour. We usually just give her the bottle. Some days she'll have 2 in a day, some days it's still up to 4. I really wanted her to be off them by a year, but at this rate, she'll have them in her lunch box at Kindergarten.

Do you read books/mags for advice on parenting? If so, which ones? If not, do you get advice from other parents or just trust your gut?

I don't. I'll browse the charts of your baby should be doing ___ by ___ age, but that's it. I get advice from my mother/SIL/cousin, and then just trust my gut.

Does LO have a Lovey of some sort? Is there an age you think they should be done with it?

Nope. She has no real attachment to any of her toys. She loves kissing her dolls, but then she drops them on the floor and walks away.

Anything else you would like to share?

  • Does LO still take a bottle? How many? When did he/she stop taking them? Is there a certain age you would like them off of it? Nope. We weaned Kellen from his bottle and formula after we went to our 12 month appointment. I thought it went well and fast/easy to wean him from both of those things. It's the pacifier that we are going to have major issues with....

Do you read books/mags for advice on parenting? If so, which ones? If not, do you get advice from other parents or just trust your gut? I don't read anything about parenting. I sometimes ask my mom, MIL, or doctor for advice on certain but for the most part I just trust my gut. My feeling is that every child is different, every mother is different, so we just do what works for us because what works for somebody else won't necessarily work for Kellen and I.

Does LO have a Lovey of some sort? Is there an age you think they should be done with it? Yes, Kellen has a lovey. It's one of those small blankets with a bear head attached to it. He has a few of them, but he only really likes the one. I finally found it on Target.com so I need to order another one just in case. We are always in fear of it getting lost or destroyed. I figure he will naturally wean himself off of it, I am not going to force him to give it up. When he is ready to give up his lovey he will give it up. I don't think it's as big of an issue for him to have a lovey as it is for him to continue to use a pacifier or bottle.

  • Does LO still take a bottle? How many? When did he/she stop taking them? Is there a certain age you would like them off of it?

Taryn rarely had a bottle to begin with (maybe 5 times?). I'm working on weaning her. She still nurses about 3 times a day, with the one in the middle of the day being after she eats her "regular" lunch, and is the shortest feeding.

I'm going to talk to her pedi at the end of Sept at her 15 month appt--Taryn doesn't really like to drink regular milk. I've given her plain milk, and as much as I didn't want to, I have even added chocolate syrup or strawberry syrup (a small amount) to see if it would entice her to drink it, but nope!

Do you read books/mags for advice on parenting? If so, which ones? If not, do you get advice from other parents or just trust your gut?

I get Parents, Parenting, American Baby, and Baby Talk in the mail. Do I read them? Not really. I flip through Parents and Parenting more than the other 2, but I don't really read too many of the articles.

I tend to trust my gut, but if I'm questioning something, I tend to ask my mom (or you girls) for advice.

Does LO have a Lovey of some sort? Is there an age you think they should be done with it?

Like Alex, Taryn doesn't have a lovey and doesn't have a great attachment to one particular toy. She, too, kisses her dolls then throws them back on the floor! LOL Lately, she's been playing a lot with the cupcake favors from her birthday party (plastic cupcakes filled with candy--with the candy now taken out). I don't think I could say she truly has a favorite toy though.

Anything else you would like to share?

She's spitting out new words every day! She's definitely become a copycat with me. She's hilarious--when I tell her to do her silly eyes, she does this smoldering look that just cracks us up!

  • Does LO still take a bottle? How many? When did he/she stop taking them? Is there a certain age you would like them off of it? Bottles are all gone. We only have sippy cups.  Charlie has between 2-3 a day, but he is also still getting BFd.

Do you read books/mags for advice on parenting? If so, which ones? If not, do you get advice from other parents or just trust your gut? I get a lot of emails/newsletters and I also have some wonderful friends that I go to.

Does LO have a Lovey of some sort? Is there an age you think they should be done with it?  Yes, he has a teddy bear blanket. I hope it will be taken away by 3-4.

Anything else you would like to share? Charlie has this little girl friend at daycare. It it so cute. This little girl is already walking, she is so tiny. All the kids in the infant class were fussy this morning, so of course when I dropped Charlie off he was fussy too. He went up to the gate and stood up, and his little girl friend followed him. So cute!

  • Does LO still take a bottle? How many? When did he/she stop taking them? Is there a certain age you would like them off of it?  Kodi is no longer on bottles.  We let him decide when he was done with them and by doing it that way, it was so easy!  He was only taking a bottle before nap time and bed time and at 15 months he decided he didn't want them anymore and he never asked again for a baba.

Do you read books/mags for advice on parenting? If so, which ones? If not, do you get advice from other parents or just trust your gut?  I have a subscription to Mothering and I love it.  I wish I would have started reading it when I was pregnant.  At this point, I mostly just go with my gut.  When Kodi was a baby I went more by the book, but now I just figure things out on my own.  I also like reading advice from the EFF board since most of the ladies there have similar parenting styles as mine.

Does LO have a Lovey of some sort? Is there an age you think they should be done with it?  Kodi has a blankie that he calls Bebe.  He is very attached to it.  I don't plan on taking it away from him at a certain age.  He can decide when he doesn't want it anymore.  But I'm not going to allow him to take it with him everywhere he goes (like he does now) once he reaches 3 or 4.  My DH and I both still have our baby blankets.  And they are both in our bed at home right now Embarrassed.  So obviously we have no problem with Kodi having a blankie for as long as he wants!

  • Does LO still take a bottle? How many? When did he/she stop taking them? Is there a certain age you would like them off of it? Abby has been done with bottles since about 14 months.  Even at the end she was only on a nighttime bottle.  She transitioned easily, so I hope the twins do the same.

Do you read books/mags for advice on parenting? If so, which ones? If not, do you get advice from other parents or just trust your gut?  I just trust my gut.  I read the articles in the magazines I get, but don't really pay attention to them.

Does LO have a Lovey of some sort? Is there an age you think they should be done with it? Yes, Abby adores her Lovey.. or Lala as she calls it.  We have two of them and rotate them.  I am not going to worry about taking it away from her, because I had one when I was younger and got rid of it when I no longer needed it.

Anything else you would like to share? Abby has been all about mommy recently!  She loves to sit with my on the couch and cuddle.  I just adore her!!!
