Reading

Has anyone ever read Toxic Parents Reclaiming Your Life.....? What did you think of it? Someone was asking me about it the other day - I couldn't recommend or whatever because I haven't read it.

Re: Reading

  • YES- I have read Toxic Parents as well as Toxic In-Laws and I thought they were both worth reading.

I also should add that Emotional Blackmail is another book by the same author that I thought was helpful as well.  Forewarn your friend that the Toxic Parents book is primarily about physical or sexual abuse- neither of which applied to a situation I am a part of.  However, the small part that was about emotional abuse was helpful- but I thought that Toxic In Laws went way more in depth with the kind of manipulative, emotionally abusive people that I have had to deal with.  So did Emotional Blackmail.  SO it depends on why this person wants to read it.

  • Emotionally, physically, and sexually abused as  young child and after being adopted. Also have been manipulated and emotionally abused by lots of people. She had the book the recommended to her and I was just wondering if it was worthwhile telling her to get or not.

  • This book is a good read and basically validates the person who suffered through these types of abuses, but is your friend in counseling? I would recommend that to her as a tool she can have to help her move forward in her life.
