Have you ever met a super rich person before?

I mean like a person with ungodly amounts of money?

I'm meeting up with one of my GF's dad at the convention.  He's a big muckity muck of some mondo corporation and he's also in the Program so my GF gave him my number and I have his.  I see he left me a VM so it sounds like we'll be meeting.  This is really kind of weird...I feel like I'll be meeting a celebrity.

Part of me is hoping that since his DD likes me so much he might give me some money!!  LOL  I'm so materialistic.  : )

Re: Have you ever met a super rich person before?

  • What's ungodly?  Millions?  Yes.  And I was sitting there thinking, 'This person is not that smart and they are loaded.'  lol.

    Have fun at your meeting!

  • My dad's uncle is super rich. Super rich.

Unfortunately, that does not appear to be a close enough relation for him to fling wads of cash in my direction.

  • I have some filthy rich clients, and some filthy rich family members; and some filthy rich college friends. Totally normal, nice people.

  • Definitely and usually not that big of a deal - except one guy I dated in High school who lived in Alpine NJ (like super, mega rich town) and whenever I went to his house there was a gujard house at the gate who announced people, and then a 'servant' of some sort answered the door and led you to a sitting room to wait for the kid.

    wierdorama.

  • Yes. A couple girls at my high school came from mucho, mucho rich families. I think my former boss was loaded too.

  • I'd say he's a gazillionaire.  My GF has told me all kinds of stories about her upbringing: boarding schools, a home in Geneva and one in CA, etc. And it's all true.

I Googled him, and yeah...he's uber successful.

I just got his VM--he sounds like a kick just like his daughter.  We're having coffee tomorrow afternoon.

No, he was almost too normal, very chill - but then - he had nothing to worry about either. He was completely wild though. Drank a lot, smoked cigarettes and cigars, pot. Had insane parties when his parents were away. He lived like an adult. He had like a suite for a bedroom with a kitchen a livingroom, bedroom, bathroom.

    He was a nice guy.

  • Oh wait, and I used to work with a really rich guy. Well, his dad was super rich, he was a trust-fund baby. I guess he just wanted to work for a while to see how the other half lives. He was a very nice, normal guy.

  • If you marry this guy, you have GOT to throw some money at me for the boys' college. I'm getting panicky enough to be begging on the internet.

  • Yes, I met the VP of Exxon distributing when I was looking at wedding venues. He and his wife gave me a tour, and were very nice.

I heard a few months ago that they were getting a divorce, though.

**hears Luann's (from RHWoNY) song "money can't buy you class" in back of head**

  • Yes, a lot actually.  There are a surprising number of extremely rich people in this area.  If I was that rich I would be living anywhere but here, but to each their own.

  • A good friend of mine was a small town girl making about $35,000/yr, she randomly met and married a well known professional athlete and became a multi millionaire overnight. I'm very happy for her, but COME ON, why not me!!! :)

LOL, I always ask DH when he's going to tell me about his giant trust fund.

  • Honestly, I don't think I know one REALLY rich thing!

  • Yes.

He was an older gentleman my dad met during one of his performances.  He was really down to earth, very low key.  Apparently he was the son of a coal miner back in WV in the 20's or 30's (so basically dirt poor) and invented something that revolutionized the industry.  We had no clue how obscenely wealthy he was until he started tipping my dad's group in $100 bills.  Per person.  For letting him sing w/ them.  So one 2 minute song, and this guy dropped $400.

He then invited the group to sing at his 80th birthday party.  The one in which he rented the ENTIRE Greenbriar  Resort for 3 nights, and filled it w/ guests he flew in on private jets.

  • Yes, she is the daughter of my parents best friends.  She grew up across the street from us.  I consider her my aunt of sorts.  She is mega rich and really is one of the nicest most giving person I know.  Her and her ex-husband build a grocery store chain and made millions.

Her mother died about 15 years ago and my mom took care of her till the day she died.  Since then she and her sisters consider my mom like their mom.  So one year for mothers day, the weekend before, she took my mom and her aunts to Vegas on her private plane and put them up in the pent house at Cesars Place.  She also gave each one of them $500.00 dollars spending cash and paid for everything.

She also one year took all of her aunts and cousins and family (myself included) to her private ranch in San Inez (which is wine country) for the weekend.  It was such a blast.  We drove around in a limo to different vinyards and had an amazing time.

I also can't explain how much she help us when my dad died.  She and her sisters took care of all the food for the reception after his funeral.  She is just the nicest person.
