New House Poll (of sorts)

Since so many of us are buying new houses or moving, I thought I would make up a poll about our houses. (Also some of these questions are for my own purely selfish reasons. ;))

1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill?

2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Especially if you have a dining room set you like, where did you get it? :)

3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in?

4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house?

5. If you could change one thing, what would it be?

Re: New House Poll (of sorts)

  • 1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill?

Right now it's $120/month for both through Comcast. We're looking at switching to Dish for cable.

    2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Especially if you have a dining room set you like, where did you get it? :)

Love, love, love Cost Plus. We haven't bought the dining set yet but once the tax credit comes through, we're on it. =)

    3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in?

It's quiet, fairly close to the main campuses of UNM/CNM, has fabulous views of the mountains, a great community center, doesn't seem to have too much turnover and will be great to walk my dogs there.

    4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house?

    Dining set and new dishwasher

    5. If you could change one thing, what would it be?

I would get rid of the stupid HOA  rule where they won't let me have a clothesline!

  • 1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill?

Cable is Direct TV and internet is Comcast.  I don't remember the cost right now, cablemodem is our only option for high speed internet, we aren't close enough to a box to get DSL.

    2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Especially if you have a dining room set you like, where did you get it? :)

Diving set came from my MIL.  I LOVE our bedroom set which we bought at American Furniture Warehouse.  I'd been looking for a set for years and didn't find anything that wasn't >10k that I liked, so yes, we went to Colorado to buy furniture.  Our couches and recliners are from La-z-boy.

    3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in?

It is so quiet, the lots are all 2.5 + acres.  When I go for a walk I feel like I see more people walking and biking than I do cars.

    4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house?

Probably nothing soon, we replaced the furnaces (we have 2) last month.

    5. If you could change one thing, what would it be?

I wish my yard was landscaped.

  • Answering my own poll.....

    1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill?

Cable is Dish whom I love. We pay $40 a month for the basic package, Cinemax, DVR in 3 rooms. :) Cable we have Comcast @ $70 a month- not loving that.

    2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Especially if you have a dining room set you like, where did you get it? :)

Well obviously I don't have an answer on the dining room set, but I love Pier 1 and have gotten a ton of stuff from there. MOR is also another top prospect on my list and my bedroom set from there has been great.

    3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in?

Its super quiet and all the neighbors around us are really nice. Also, we are super close to the I-40 which is awesome....but tucked behind a few hills so the noise is drowned out.

    4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house?

We bought a grill this weekend, next is a dining room set (duh!) and new appliances.

    5. If you could change one thing, what would it be?

About the house: I would make the master BD closet a bit bigger. About the area: I'd make it closer to amenities.

  • I'm technically homeless (as of 9.30 this morning!) but I'll play anyway...

    image Empire76:

    1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill?

We had internet and TV through Comcast and had a steal of a deal - $65 for both.  We'll never see that again.  Not sure what we're doing w/the new house though...Comcast for internet for sure, maybe no TV - or dish if we decide to get it.

    2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Especially if you have a dining room set you like, where did you get it? :)

Tema, for sure.  Our bed is from there and I am still in love with it.  I found several couches and dining sets I love, but all we "need" is a couch (and that's not a matter of life or death).

    3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in?

The view from our balcony is amazing and - the best part - we're very good friends with two other houses on the street and know another couple a block away.

    4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house?

We need a washer and dryer and an entertainment set.

    5. If you could change one thing, what would it be?

Unrealistic - I'd move it to Nob Hill. Realistic - I'd like to have both a jetted tub and a standing shower in our bathroom...not enough room though.

ETA:  We got our new dining set off a friend, who bought it from Crate & Barrel...I love it!  But like I said, Tema is my favorite place locally.

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

    1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill?

We don't have cable - I can't bring myself to pay for TV. Internet is through Qwest DSL. It's about $30/month.

    2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Especially if you have a dining room set you like, where did you get it? :)

All the furniture we have bought comes from the A Store, TEMA and Cost Plus. Our dining room set is mostly from the A store - Edo table (5'x5' mahogany square table) with 4 Palachek leather chairs. And then we got 2 leather benches from Cost Plus.  It's a more modern looking set/groupings.  The A store has some gorgeous tables and chairs so you can mix and match depending on your style.  But TEMA has some great dining sets and so does Cost Plus.

    3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in?

I can walk almost everywhere.  And if I drive, I'm only 5-10 minutes away.

    4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house?

The white leather couch/pull out bed that I have been visiting at teh A Store for over a year.  We will have a full house for Thanksgiving so we need the 2nd guest bed.  And it's in the library/TV room. Or I may finally get the mythical bookshelves/storage unit for the same room.

    5. If you could change one thing, what would it be?

In my dreams, get one of teh cute Victorians in Edo/Downtown or cute 40s era house in Nob Hill.

On this house, a roofdeck with a small room and half bath.

  • We've been in our house for 2 years this week, but haven't been able to do much of the updating that we want to.

    1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill?

Internet is $30, we have Direct TV and that varies depending on what sports programming DH has ordered.  I would say it's usually about $80/month now, but it goes up to $120 during football season - Too much!

    2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Especially if you have a dining room set you like, where did you get it? :)

No clue - we haven't really bought anything since we moved back.  I did buy some couches from Overstock.com and I really like them.

    3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in?

I love that I can walk to the park everyday.  I like most of our neighbors, but we are definately the young ones on the block.

    4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house?

We were talking about buying a solar heater for our pool this year, but we may put it off until next year. Other than that we are remodeling my office (I telecommute full time) and doing the new nursrey.  We actually won't spend too much on either of those projects, but I'll feel better whrn they are done.

    5. If you could change one thing, what would it be?

OUr kitchen needs a major remodel/upgrade.  It will be secveral years before we are able to do this, but I can't wait.

  • We've been in our house a little over 2 years but I guess I can still answer!

    1. Who is your cable/internet through and how much is your monthly bill? We have internet only through CableOne and we pay about $50 a month

    2. Where are your favorite places to buy furniture? Honestly...craigslist, garage sales, Goodwill, Savers and Big Lots :)

    3. Thing you like best about the neighborhood you live in? It's cute, quiet and we're right by a park! And we have a great view of the Sandias.

    4. What is the next "big" purchase you're making for your house? We are in the middle of renovating our kitchen..so everything/anything for that!

    5. If you could change one thing, what would it be? I would love to have 1 more bedroom and a laundry room! And I agree with getting rid of the stupid HOA around here, too.
