WDYT of this bedding?

For a guest room, too feminine? I was thinking gray walls with purple undertones? How would I break up the gray? With an accent wall? What color?

Re: WDYT of this bedding?

  • I think gray walls might be a little much with that bedding. I can't really tell from the pictures, but are there any tones other than gray or purple that you could pull out? Even like a really soft gray-green, something that will add a little contrast.
  • It's pretty!  I agree with Rock - what other color could you use so that everything wasn't in the same tone?  It kind of looks like a khaki color in there, maybe?

Let me know when the room is ready, and I will come over and sleep in it and test it out for you.

  • I think the purple is what makes it feel a bit too feminine for my taste.  But if you have a lot of female guests it doesn't really matter.  I agree a gray wall would just make the whole thing blend into the wall.  Bringing another color in with the wall color would keep the room from feeling too monotone.  We painted our study a soft blue/green/gray color.  It took me many paint samples to settle on this color but I <3 and get lots of compliments on it.  Here's a pic:

It looks very different in different lights.  In daylight it looks much lighter and more of a blue/gray.

Does the bed have a headboard?  Lots of D&R girls have made DIY padded headboards (the upholstered ones with lots of buttons).  You could bring in some color in the headboard or have a nice pop of white to match the sheets.  Have you ever seen the blog Adventures of a Brooklyn Limestone?  She has some other wall colors throughout her house that remind me of this bedding for some reason.

  • Ooh, I love the bedding, and I think gray walls would be perfect!  A nice light to medium shade of gray.  And maybe do a large ivory headboard?  I like the idea of keeping it fairly monochromatic.  Some accent pieces in black would make things really interesting, too (like a black lamp base, or picture or mirror framed in black).
  • One more thing to add--I think if you keep the purple color contained to pretty much just the bedding then you don't have to worry about it looking too feminine.  If you decide to put the purple anywhere else I'd stay away from the lighter shades.

  • I love the pattern but not sure about the colors. I'm not crazy about a lot of gray. You could use a soft butter yellow for an accent color and I think that would be pretty.
