Seriously guys?

V's cousin posted the following FB status: R wonders why female hockey players put on lots of makeup for a hockey game.

OK, fair enough. I didn't see the post-game interviews but it's a fair comment; wearing makeup to work out is a little silly. But what annoys me is some of the comments: (all from guys, of course)

"Dont you know that woman who wear make-up, wear it all the time. or maybe shes a *** and shes trying to impress another player?"

"Clearly they don't work hard enough to break a sweat"

Ugh. Men.

Re: Seriously guys?

  • oooor they look like death without it. Men don't know how hard it is to be pretty while we do everything that they do plus some.

  • I noticed that too when watching the game last night and they showed close ups during some plays.  It may be silly if they were just working out, but if I knew that I was going to be shown on live tv with millions of people watching, I'd put on a little make-up too!

  • Psh, clearly they've never heard of sweat/water proof eye liner.

Most of those girls looked like they'd just stepped out of the shower they were sweating so much.

    Oh, and YAY CANADA!

  • I'm with you ladies. When I take my son to school I ALWAYS get up shower and do my hair and makeup. DH says it's silly but I hate seeing half the moms still in their pj's
  • Ugh, that's so freaking demeaning. I say tell the guy to STFU. I mean, the women freaking won gold. AGAIN. For the third straight Olympics. Maybe if the male Canadian athletes put on a little make-up we'd start seeing some more medals out of them - right now it's 14 medals from women/female teams and 4 from men.

Agreed. Waterproof makeup to look good for the gold metal game all the way.

  • Whatever happened to being excited because woman athletes are finally getting the attention they deserve? EUGH.  People piss me off.

BTW.  Thoughts on the celebrating with champagne/cigars underage controversy?  Apparently the team had to publicly apologize today or something?

I think it's a classic case of mountain-out-of-a-molehill. I doubt very many Canadians care as much as the media does; we're just thrilled that they won. The end.

Sooooo blown out of proportion.  I can see getting all up in arms if they were drinking Bud Light or something, but come on, they were drinking Canadian! (ha)

As for the underage thing, psh.  She's from Quebec (where the drinking age is 18) and turns 19 (drinking age in BC) next month.  SHE JUST SCORED TWO GOALS TO WIN A GOLD MEDAL.  Give the girl a break.

Andplus also, how is drinking on the ice any different that drinking in the stands?  How is one public while the other is not?  This whole situation is Fubar.

Agreed! Hell, I'd do it if 100 people were going to be watching.

  • If the media didn't have such impossible standards of beauty to begin with, then maybe no one would care about the makeup and what a woman supposedly *should* look like. Even if they hadn't worn it, you'd probably get some comments from guys saying how rough they looked. You just can't win with people.

And? Go Canada. :D I can't help it, I always cheer for Canada when it comes to hockey. :)

I agree.  Just needed confirmation that yet again Canada > US. If I wasn't so snowverwhelmed today, I might consider moving.

Hehe. Well, I studied in Canada for a while and grew up across the bridge. Canada'll always have a special place in my heart. Big Smile
